totalaccess : exactly its a mock up to a switching device that wont be free to anyone. There are already packages that deliver free voip on smart phones like gimzmo5. I am working on a testing a new release on ISO only (sorry server guys) that converts from any cell to VOIP. Cool stuff, and yeah this one is actually free.

Take a look at what the big boyz are up against, and now you understand their urgency to deliver 'The NOW crowd'. With developers all over the world working to deliver free VOIP, the cellular area is the most needed place of deployment. We are excited to see so many VOIP developments.

I still think combined efforts like in mesh access points that run asterisk (free voip server) that work with free soft-phones or industry standard gear is a faster and easier way of deploying voice for your wireless network versus importing and exporting the traffic. Now that Cisco is officially moving into the market, we may see the needed help in getting the idea of Voice to Voice termination to & from numerous carriers.

»www.gizmoproject.com - free voip
»www.wirelessworlds.com - mobile mesh w/voip embedded
»www.asterisk.org - free voip server software
--
Deploying Global Solutions: »www.wirelessworlds.com
VOIP, IPTV, MobileMesh (tm) and now G3/G4 Technology!

disc : Kathryn, I don't think this is true mobile VoIP. It's more like a wireless TDM call to/from the Skype call server. This is still a conventional TDM wireless call as far as the wireless carrier is concerned, so they still get $$ from the subscriber.

What I can't understand from the press release is the reference about how "iSkoot and Cisco's combined solution has been already been successfully deployed by mobile operators". I would have thought iskoot's PSTN gateways would have been deployed in the same LD carriers where Skype's PSTN gateways are deployed. Maybe it's that the wireless carriers want to terminate the traffic themselves to avoid fees to another carrier.
