Problems recovering deleted files

I am trying to recover pictures my wife accidently deleted. I tried 2 versions of PC restoration and snapfiles. PC restoration says source and destination location can't be the same. I have a card reader and 1GB card trying to use but PC restoration says have to use intensive mode for NTFS devices. The program shuts down in error in this mode after only 1% completed. What options do I have except buying a external usb hardrive? thanks for any help.

Maybe a separate partition? Maybe a shared NTFS drive across a network?

You could pull the drive from the system, put it in someone else's system, making sure in BIOS that it won't be the bootup drive, and try some other recovery programs.

If the drive is at all flaky, this is when it might give you problems. Also, there are a lot of programs out there with fancy claims, but only so many of them really work worth anything. So, go to our software forum and ask what programs they recommend!
