[TWC] Router Status around DC area

Sorry if this is the wrong forum, but as an RR user I thought this would be the best place to start. Move as necessary and link, thx.

There is a major dead spot I was hoping someone could shed some light on. Doing a tracert resulted in the following:

6 14 ms 13 ms 13 ms te-3-1.car1.Raleigh1.Level3.net [4.71.160.9]

Is there anyway to find out if this area is having an outage, all my searching has come up with nothing. I'm in NE NC.

I am also having an issue with Level3.net routing. I've spoken with our e-mail provider, and they have told me that it's being worked on. Unfortunately, it's been "being worked on" for about 5 hours and there doesn't seem to be any change yet.

It seems to be mainly affecting RR and TW cable customers I believe. It's keeping my office from being able to check their e-mail, which as the IT guy is giving me fits!

I seem to be having the same problem. Cannot access my website through DNS or IP. Spent 30 minutes on the phone with a RR level 1 tech who didn't have a clue. Escalated to level 2 and tech confirmed what I suspected.

What I do not understand is why RR doesn't reroute the traffic elsewhere until level3 gets this straightened out.

Its been going on for 12+ hours now, and here's my run in with RR techs...

Contacted Live Chat help. 10 minutes to verify my RR account, to be told call the number.

Call the number, 10 minutes to get them to realize what I'm talking about, after them (with me saying its not my end) resetting my modem, twice, and wanting to send a tech out, they finally say, "OH! Well, that's after it leaves out network. We can't do anything. You need to tell Level3, here's their number." THen they hung up on me.

I call Level3, with the provided number, and get a tech person, who says "We would be more than happy to send a ticket out to our engineers in the Washington area, I just need your customer number to set up the ticket.", I told them I am an end-user, customer of RoadRunner. I was told she needed to check with her supervisor. A short time later, she informed me, RoadRunner is their customer, and I can't put the ticket in, that a rep from RoadRunner must put it in and "that's what I pay them for".

Ok, call back to RoadRunner.

First tech says "Hello, how may I assist you today." I tell him a quick rundown of what's happened so far. He says, "I don't know that much technical stuff, let my upgrade you to a better tech."... guy number 2 get my tracert info, my ip, and creates a ticket. He gives me the ticket number, and says he's going to transfer me to engineering. I get transferred to a guy that says he's with national network support. I try to give him my ticket number, and he says "I don't need that", and says he scheduled a tech to come out. I told him, please bring up the ticket, that it has all pertinent information, and that it is not an issue with my, or RR's lines, its with RR's service provider, and that I can't put the ticket in, that it must be a rep from RR, as told to me by Level3.

He hung up on me.

Today, more than 12 hours after the router went down, I still can't access squat on about 30% of the web.

Yay. I'm already trying to contact someone with some authority in RoadRunner, I WOULD like to see it fixed today, but I'm more interested in getting marks placed against most of the people that tried to help me.

my online game www.dark-wind.com which is hosted by hosting365.ie is out because of the washington router being out. has been out since 2am eastern time.. its 2:51 pm est and still same issue.

i can get to both websites from kproxy.com and verizon FIOS, (have a friend with it) looking at level 3 on google shows outage in 2005. a major backbone provider that has outages needs to get out of the business IMO.

dont blame brighthouse or TW guys, they are at the mercy of level 3 which seems they are not interested in getting it fixed quickly. for me it means no online game or accessing any sites hosted by their hosting provider hosting365.ie in ireland.

verizon just put FIOS in my neighborhood.. I may just switch to them

I got a level3 rep who actually talked to me. However he didn't say anything that made me feel better. He said "We are not aware of any problems, none of our customers has reported an outage." He couldn't tell me any more because I wasn't a customer.

I just spoke to my e-mail provider, who is being affected by the Level3 issue. Apparently, the story goes that a fiber cable was cut in the Washington area... currently Level 3, UUNet, and another ISP (can't remember the name) are having a meeting trying to work out a resolution. The problem seems to be causing problems with some east coast to west coast traffic, which I'm sure you all know at this point.

I'm stunned that it's been this long. I'm getting KILLED at my office about e-mail being down, and it's frustrating because there's nothing I can do about it...

Otteaux

I also called Level3's HQ who claims to have no knowledge of a problem, although I may not have spoken with the right person.

When I called the Level3 Gateway in Washington, I got a recorded message saying that I should call between their normal business hours of 7am to 6pm (it's 5pm). I then tried calling their 24 hour NOC, where no one answered.

I'm not trying to bug these folks... I'm sure they're busy. But I'm getting nervous that my company isn't going to have their e-mail again tomorrow, and that nothing is really being done about this.

They FINALLY got it fixed...

I had the cable guy here for a few hours (fixed my modem speeds... new cable run through house, etc) then called tech support back, who transfered me to engineering, who 3-way'ed me with Level3, who was responsive and opened a ticket (on engineering's behalf for RoadRunner).

It was fixed 15 mins later. (They rerouted around it)
