Wondering if the 5 second lull is a call-waiting call breaking in? Can you test it by disabling call waiting? (Keep in mind that it takes five minutes for the change to become effective).

As far as voicemail is concerned, I personally don't like it and only use it when ignoring a call waiting call or if the power goes out. Otherwise, we have an answering machine (they are cheap nowadays) that is a bit easier to use.

Hope things get straightened out for you. When we had a glitch in service a few weeks ago, I started thinking what to do if VP went downhill. There just isn't any VoIP out there with fewer complaints and better cost, and I really don't want to go back to a 'landline' with all the taxes and fees. But our service has been back to perfect since then.

Lenagainster: The lull definitely is not call waiting. Call waiting makes a loud noise and this is just a period of no sound at all. Further, my call logs do not show any call waiting calls and none of these lulls have resulted in a voicemail message from a caller that I did not answer. This problem has actually been going on for over a year. And it does not happen with my ViaTalk VOIP service so it is definitely caused by VoicePulse.

I too use an answering machine in most cases. Like with you, my voicemail only kicks in when I do not answer a call waiting tone or if two folks call at the same time.
