U-verse in San Gabriel Valley? (626 area code)

So this AT&T tech rung my doorbell just now and wanted to work on the pole so asked our permission since it's sitting on our property (each pole serves 4 houses).

Anyways..I thought nothing of it because it's normal for us to have this asked every year or so. As he walked to the back I came out the back and said to him jokingly, "Here to install U-verse?" And to my surprise he said yes.

I then told him I'm 12K from the DSL CO and my speeds max at 1.5Mbps downstream. He said they will run fiber from the CO to a box which is about 2 blocks from my house and that will greatly reduce the distance.

He said U-verse should be ready within 2-3 weeks in my area. (Rosemead and Longden in Temple City, CA).

He basically just scouted the pole and left within 10 minutes. I hope he isn't teasing me

it's not like it really matters anyways

I have Dish HD and U-verse can't even come close to matching up the hardware and programming.
Recording two shows at the same time, three if one is OTA, is great.
I have ATT CV (VOIP) as well.

now a dry run would be sweet

Great job. I am at Broadway and Encinita and hopefully we can get the 6mb speed after 2-3 weeks.

Dish HD is better then U-verse. Hardware I wouldn't say that. The DVR that comes with uverse can record 4 streams at once. 4 SD or 1 HD / 3 SD. If you record all 4 shows then you have to watch one.

It's here!

A rep from AT&T came by this past week and was telling us that U-verse is now active in our area (I live just north of Emperor Elementary).

I've been waiting months for AT&T to finally announce that service would be available.

*edit*

I confirmed it on their website

AT&T rep came by my house -- New York Drive & Allen Ave (Altadena) walk one block west and it's Pasadena. She asked me if knew that AT&T was working in my neighborhood. I did notice an AT&T truck driving through the private alley by my house a few weeks ago but thought nothing of it.

I drilled her with questions because when I checked with AT&T about 6 months ago they told me that they were using copper-to-the-home. The rep last night told me that it's fiber optices to home. So, I missed this on my radar because I've been content with my Charter Cable 10MB cable internet.

So I signed up and my install is set for May 18 which gives me plenty of time to research the pros and cons of switching. I also found out that AT&T UVerse Voice is being deployed but not yet available in my area.

I can tell you right now the rep. was 50/50. I would bet you are not getting fiber to your home. It's fiber to the vrad and then from that point copper to your house.

If you have aerial cabling you will be copper. Unless you have seen them dig up a yard you will be copper. Typically it's brand new developments that are getting fiber.

I signed up for 10MB internet service, would that still be copper-to-the home. I would think that 6MB would be copper-to-the-home.

U-verse currently doesn't distinguish between the two. Anyone on copper and has a good pair can get 10 megs. I have the 10 meg package and am on copper.

Does anyone have a link to a site which measures distance from VRAD to home location. DSLReports used to have a feature where you could input your zipcode and it would tell how far home location was from DSLAM.

I plan on researching UVerse pros vs. cons exhaustively.

You won't find a tool for that publicly. Honestly I wouldn't trust any of those results. That will all be tested when the U-Verse tech comes out. They measure to verify you distance first before anything else happens.

I am about 2100' from the VRAD and sync around 62-65 megs. ATT only allows 25 megs total right now for TV/Internet/Phone.
