Newark, OH | Death of the Address Bar I work in the Online Banking department of a local bank and we get calls all the time from people who get to the wrong web site because they try typing our address in a Search Bar and just click on the first result that comes up.
It's really sad, but the truth is most people really don't know the difference between a Search Bar and the Address Bar. I can't tell you how many times I've wanted to hang up the phone on someone because I've had to spend so much time on the phone trying to explain the difference.
The way I see it, the Address Bar is slowly but surely getting killed off by Search Bars and, I should add, portal pages.

We are heading for a world where you need a license to operate a PC, otherwise you just get a web appliance, or perhaps a walled garden. The computer illiteracy is mind boggling. Whenever Comcast or TW increase their upload speeds, they just increased the world's spam output by the same % of the speed increase. |
