| reply to syoder Re: Embarq network congestion, latency and packet loss in IN
Whenever one Embarq hop is REAL bad, so is the other. It has always been that way in the past. My neighbor's is the same way. We've been through this so many times. Maybe it's our local office having trouble. Seems like they change our routing and it's fixed for a few months then back to high latency and slow speeds. |

| reply to syoder Nope! If anything it is the 67.76.27.65 gateway they have me going through. I use my connection for remoting into work and online gaming, but not at the same time. Trust me, I can tell when there is a problem. It is not on my end unless it's the line coming from the pole to the house. I swapped out routers and modems and it does not matter. Same thing. If it were on my end, why would my neighbor's be like that also? He's going through a different gateway. I have a static ip he has a dynamic. |

| Sorry, I just looked at the screen shot you posted. Because you are behind a router, your first hop is the router. The second is between you and your POP, which is after your local CO. For example, I am in Tallahassee, but my POP is in Orlando, as is all of Florida. If there was a problem at your local office then it would show on the POP ping. It could be network congestion in your area or an oversold office. If there where problems with your physical connection, such as poopy wires, or whatever, then it would more than likely show up as packet loss when you run an extended ping. -- "Padre, nobody said war was fun now bowl!" - Sherman T Potter

| reply to userequal 67.76.27.65 is the ADSL IP address on your router isn't it? Your traceroute is from a client machine behind your router because your 1st hop is 192.168.0.1 which is the ethernet IP address of your router.
Check the router's interface usage statistics when your latency is bad and see if your inbound or outbound usage is maxed out. It's real easy to max out the outbound bandwidth.
Swaping out routers won't fix that problem but shutting down bit torrent will. |

| reply to userequal userequal as I am in Lapel also what side of town are you on? I'm in the new neighborhoods by the school. Still no fix for the service I havent been able to game online since last week, we really need another option in this town but until someone boots out longview and gets insight in here I'd say were stuck.
There is no problem with any of my ewquipment as I have done as you did and swapped out and reset everything, this is purely an ISP problem |
