Also HD and Digital TV are 2 DIFFERENT things. I think you need to read up about the Feb 2009 "Digital" Broadcast act and what HD, High Definition is.
You keep getting the 2 confused. -- "The American Indians found out what happens when you don't control immigration." |

1 edit | reply to whocares said by whocares :there are a lot of "classic' movies that aren't in hd or blue ray, so i guess that 1, SD,HD, aren't dead2,The movie studios can make all the movies they want in Blue Ray,but UNTIL the broadcasters switch their equipment over or buy new equipment to broadcast or show the movies in "blue ray" then most of us will be watching SD,Hd,on DVD & VHS tapes A) broadcasters don't and won't ever broadcast in "blu-ray". They do broadcast in HD. Blu-ray just describes the laser that reads the disc. There is no disc to read for the broadcatsers to broadcast in HD. Jeez.
B) You can't watch HD on a VHS tape. VHS isn't even DVD quality. Also no movies have been put out in VHS format for 4 years now.
C) blu-ray is HD. Jeez Louise.
3,1 or 2 ,(even 1/2 a dozen COMPANIES) START MAKING "blue ray" dvd players, doesn't mean the end of HD. Of course not since blu-ray is HD. I think that bears repeating in your case.
The same thing was shouted & screamed, advertised when HD First came out (within the last year) and started being broad casted,""it was the end of SD
and then pple (gov't) started saying its the end of the old fashion tv sets with "rabbit ears" and now instead of everyone buying HD tv's,here come the coupons for converter box's to receive the Dig,signal come Feb 2009,[/b] The Feb 2009 transition to digital has NOTHING to do with HD. All it is, is that OTA( that stands for Over The Air ) signals are no longer going to be broadcast in analog they are going to be broadcast in digital only. That doesn't mean HD. So no you don't need a HDTV to watch digital OTA signals. You do however need a Tv that has a digital tuner or get a digital converter box othewise you won't see crap with your rabbit ears. of course as I said none of this has anyhting to do with the HD-DVD vs blu-ray war.
so i think,(along with many others) that SD & HD might have a little fever or be sick, but on death row, NOT YET No one is even talking about SD and once again blu-ray is HD. |

1 edit | reply to DarnellP said by DarnellP :» www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/con···c25aa58dNot surprising if true. Just too many hot & heavy blows against hd dvd since the beginning of the year. Even if this article is premature, even the most ardent hd dvd supporter has to see that whether it's a few weeks from now or a few months from now, Toshiba's surrender/defeat is inevitable. there are a lot of "classic' movies that aren't in hd or blue ray, so i guess that 1,SD,HD, aren't dead 2,The movie studios can make all the movies they want in Blue Ray,but UNTIL the broadcasters switch their equipment over or buy new equipment to broadcast or show the movies in "blue ray" then most of us will be watching SD,Hd,on DVD & VHS tapes 3,1 or 2 ,(even 1/2 a dozen COMPANIES) START MAKING "blue ray" dvd players, doesn't mean the end of HD.

So all can rush out & buy the new blue ray players & recorders, (kinda like those that rushed out to buy the new Vista O/S,(and are now regretting that decision} so you rush right out & feel free to buy the new blue ray player. ============================================= so i think,(along with many others) that SD & HD might have a little fever or be sick, but on death row, NOT YET -- A TRUE FRIEND is someone you can disagree with and still remain FRIENDS. | reply to whocares #1 No. Cable and Sat TV will continue delivering what they are and eventually(hopfully) increase the quality of their offerings.
Blu-ray is the current leader in Picture Quality.
HDTV is currentlt at 1080i(interlaced) - screen draws half of the picture and then draws the second half. 1080p(progressive) draws the picture all in one pass.
Currently, PQ from the various HDTV sources goes like this: Sat - Cable - OTA - Blu-ray.
#2 Yes. To play a Blu-ray Disc, you will need a Blu-ray player or a Blu-ray drive for your computer. The Blu-ray drive for the computer will also need HDCP compliant hardware along side of it to display the 1080p image. The Blu-ray movies can be ripped and converted, but you lose quality if you re-encode it smaller to fit on DVDs The movies are 19-45GB in size.
#3 Which formats? HD DVD is getting dropped. *ALL* Blu-ray players and drives will play DVDs fine!
Hope this helps! -- Think outside the Fox... Opera |

| reply to dadkins Good Morning Dadkins, hope you have a good weekend uhoh, YOU've done it now, you have hit my "'curious question"",(i don't know) nerve, lol ======================= lots of questions about ""Blue Ray",
IF "blue ray" becomes the new format for movies, Questions(s) 1, Will all the local,Nat'l(cable/satellite stations) have to switch their formats also? (like from SD to HD,now to blue ray)
If (most of us have) classic or favorite VHS or Dvd movies,(either in SD or HD) 2,Will we have tobuy another pcs of equipment/player-burner to play/record these new version movies.
3,Do you thing Sir, that eventually there will be a machine that will play bith formats? (like VHS & DVD's) jazzy1120 -- A TRUE FRIEND is someone you can disagree with and still remain FRIENDS. For if not, then MAYBE they WEREN'T a true friend in the first place
