4 edits | So this is what we all bought into the HDTV hype for? The latest so called "HD" channel additions in my area have made TNTHD look good, and anyone who has ever watched TNTHD knows how pathetic that is. There is very little actual HD content at all on the newly added channels, but we do get lots of 4:3 commercials and infomercials to watch along with grainy shoddily upconverted SD of syndicated reruns. Even a cheap upconverting DVD player looks better than 98% of their so called HD programming.
If they cannot offer channels with viable content originating from an actual 1080i or 720p HD source and presented in 16:9 or OAR then they should not even waste our time, its nothing but a publicity stunt. There should be some kind of qualifications for a channel to call itself an HD channel so that they cannot continue to falsely advertise low bitrate grainy garbage like this as HD. I did not buy an HDTV to obtain the equivlent of the current cable channel lineup in what they are falsely claiming to be High Definition, in fact I would be happy with even fewer HD channels than they currently offer if the overall picture quality were even close to what all the HD hype promised us. I can just rent an HD DVD from netflix if I want real HD entertainment now, so anything the cable company does has become quite irrelevant. In fact, if it were not for the occasional presentation that actually gets it right, I would likely drop my cable HD subscription altogether at this point. |
