digital cable or hd to pc

i already pay for my digital cable and was looking to build myself an HTPC. the question i have is do i need a cable box before the tuner card to get the digital? or do they make some kind of tuner card for pc's that take a card?
obviously i don't want to use a cable box with my pc!!

For cablecard you cant build your own pc. But if you use a cablebox, you can use stuff like Sage, or snapstream.
