I cannot get this to work for the life of me. I have followed the steps exactly each time. I'm trying to use my D-Link DIR-655 router. I can get the wireless computers to work using the newly bridged d-link, but I can't get the main computer on the internet nor can I access the actiontec. Is there some step missing where I have to change the ip addresses of the routers? A couple of failed attempts I had to call FSC to break the lease. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
I am running Windows 7 x64.
My actiontec (REV A) is connected to the ONT via COAX.
I want to use my D-Link DIR-655 router.

I fixed the problem, I just had to reset the network adapte in Windows 7. VOD, widgets, and data all work. Thanks! |

i thought it was a rather odd OUI as well. that's partially why i had trouble figuring out where/what it was. it's actually the "virtual MAC" the AT assigns to the bridge created in the steps above. |

(this is the Network H/O bridge with the broadband coax under it).
Go to My Network
Select Network Connections
Select Network H/O
Select Settings
Across from INTERNET PROTOCOL, you should have NO IP ADDRESS.
If it says Obtain Address Automatically, the Actiontec will attempt to request a DHCP address from whatever server is listening. This could be your router, or it could be VZ's DHCP server, which means if the Actiontec gets a response from VZ's server, your router won't be able to pull a DHCP address.
BTW, I'm not sure is you obfuscated the MAC address. If not, that's a weird MAC address. Most Actiontec ethernet MAC addresses start with 00:18:01. |

i have found where the dhcp requests are coming from. they're coming from the AT. why would the AT be making DHCP requests?

no; only one settop is connected and upstream status shows an ip from my routers pool.

1) Not sure what you mean by "VOD timeouts". Do you mean you select a program and then get a timeout message connecting to the video source?
2) Bootp and DHCP are both the both use UDP 67. Do you have a device that is not getting a DHCP address from your router and is continually retrying? This could be a STB.
In this configuration, the Actiontec is acting as two distinct bridges (MOCA WAN to ethernet WAN) and (ethernet LAN to MOCA LAN). It should not be making any DHCP requests. It should only be passing existing WAN or LAN traffic over the appropriate bridge.
Be aware that you can not use the switch ports on the Actiontec (except for the connection to your routers WAN port).

i have just recently successfully implemented this procedure with my rev. D AT. i still have two issues that persist though; keep in mind that i have a MoCA only configuration.
1. i'm getting vod timeouts (settop is getting an IP from my router and not from the AT)
2. the AT is hammering my router with bootp (udp 67) requests (approx 1-2 a second).
can anyone shed some light on this maybe? |

For whatever reason, both links are active on my system. That is the way the technician installed and configured it. He ran both cables and verified that they were working
The lights on the ONT, the lights on the router and the network display all show both ethernet and coax as active.
I'm sure there is a way to do it without losing any function, but it looks like it will be more trouble than it is worth for me.

Your WAN connection is cat5 (ethernet) and the MOCA WAN connection is not active.
If you go to My Network; Network Connections, you will see that Broadband (coax) is down.
IP-STB1 and IP-STB2 are on the MOCA LAN, which as I stated before is separate.
The MOCA WAN and MOCA LAN share the coax, but operate on different channels (frequencies).
If you want to run a Wireless Access Point (WAP) for better wireless coverage, it is a simple matter to connect it behind your Actiontec without needing to bridge anything, or affecting VOD and guide data.

Apparently they are not always mutually exclusive.
The main router panel shows "Broadband Connection" and
"Ethernet Status: Connected', in the left column, but the center one shows 'PC Name' Connection Type: Ethernet, and 'IP-STB1' and IP-STB2" connection type Coax.
When the router went out a couple of years back, I just plugged the CAT5 from the wall directly into the PC and everything still worked, other than no program guide on the TVs.
The issue with wireless was I couldn't get my wife's PC to connect, so I just ran a cable into the next room. My granddaughter's laptop wouldn't connect either when I had security (WEP/WPA/MAC verification) turned on, but when I turned everything off, it worked fine. My best option may be to get a longer CAT5 and just turn off the wireless. |

There are 2 WAN interfaces on the Actiontec (excluding PPPoE):
•MOCA WAN
•Ethernet WAN
And 3 LAN interfaces:
•MOCA LAN
•Ethernet LAN
•Wireless
MOCA WAN and ethernet WAN are mutually exclusive.
When you login to the router, the main status page will show either "Broadband (ethernet)" or "Broadband (coax)" in the left column.
That is your WAN connection type.
The three LAN interfaces are bridged together.
MOCA LAN is used to communicate with the STBs and is separate from MOCA WAN.
If you simply want to add your own router as a wireless Access Point (WAP), use this FAQ:

Both connections are active.
CAT5 carries internet.
Coax carries TV.
Lights on the ONT show activity on both connections and the router shows both ethernet and coax lights. Also logging on to the router shows both links active, a local PC on ethernet and two STBs on coax.
Apparantly, most new installations use only coax, but it seems to depend on how the ONT is configured. I watched the technician pull both cables through the attic, and there are two cables coming out of the ONT as well as two cables from the wall to the router.
Everything is working so this may be more trouble than it is worth since I don't use the wireless that much anyway.

Only one WAN connection type can be active. A cat5 WAN connection still requires a coax connection to your main splitter to provide MOCA LAN connectivity for your STBs.

I have been looking into adding my own router and making the Actiontec a bridge to see if that will correct some wireless issues, but the directions I have seen so far are for either CAT5 or Coax.
My installation has both CAT5 and Coax from the ONT to the router. The router is then connected by CAT5 to the network card in the PC, and the coax is split with links to two set top boxes.
Is it possible to make the Actiontec a bridge and still keep the Guide and other TV features?
