It's too bad that the script kiddies

at bit torrent don't realize that if successful in circumventing sandvine..what most likely would have to happen instead of allowing comcast to reasonably manage their traffic..would wind up becoming instead caps being put in place that are FAR below what they are now.

These technological geniuses apparently don't realize how cable systems work. And don't realize that all it would really take is allowing a very few users to continually upload all day..anyday..to saturate the entire network..and bring it virtually grinding to a halt.

What they apparently don't have the foresight to realize is that Comcast and the other cable operators would have no choice whatsover to simply regulate the traffic another way..by imposing immediate and very significant caps on what people could download and upload instead. Because that would be the only way to regulate and control this out of control behaviour on the part of this very small percentage of abusers who seem to think that everything in the world is owed to them...for free.

What really is a shame is that this very small minority of abusers doesn't understand not only the technology involved..but the spirit in which the service operates...one which is a shared network. It's not a private 20Mb pipe for anyones own use 24/7. Comcast doesn't owe you or I that..for 42.95 month. If you want that..cough up your own thousands per month and buy yourself one.

Unfortunately what the "pirates"..aka..the very juvenile and apparently very unknowledgeable individuals don't realize is that your wish's are going to turn out very bad for not only your neighbors, but for yourselves.
If comcast can't control your out of control activities..and if your activities circumvent the safeguards in place..you'll be screaming when the whip really comes down. And you're finding yourself subjected to enormous caps on your consumption instead.

I have to tell you..personally, i'm in favor of them doing that anyway. There are far too many of us now paying for your abuses as it is. We're subsidizing these 300gig bandwidth sprees you're on..and Comcast is right. You'll never find that's enough..and always want more anyway.

IMHO..comcast should do away with the policing of this..and right now just come out with caps that will shut you down for good..unless you're willing to pay for the overages you enjoy nonstop today anyway.

Perhaps then those of us that use the service as we should..out of respect for our neighbors..could then even enjoy a price decrease.

When we're no longer subsidizing your greedy a$$'s each month.

Comcast..as much as it might pain some..my vote would be for you to immediately bring on the 30gig per month caps IF this out of control group of "pirates" thwarts your attempts to regulate traffic for the rest of us.
We..the 95% of your users who won't be affected by this at all..would support you in your decision to do just that.

And..to he** with the rest of them as far as I'm concerned.

Blah Blah Blah Blah.. Yes, your rants are very amusing. Let me ask you this question. If YOUR idea is such a great idea, how come NO-ONE does it? I mean, logically, you are correct, yet, for some STRANGE reason, apart from insanely small trials, it's not being used? Why is this you ask? Because the INSTANT comcast announced hard caps, they would loose 75% of their customers. The simple fact of the matter is that trying to 'charge by the bit' is a FALSEHOOD. There is no charge to copy a bit, apart from the capital outlay.

Once again, if you pay for a FLAT T-3, your bill will be EXACTLY the same if you use 1% vs if you use 99%. Why is that? Because the vendor SPENT THE MONEY to provide you with the ABILITY to use 45mb/sec. What part of 'spending money' seems to hang you up? If comcast is ADVERTISING these insane speeds, and CHARGING (ala BMW) for these speeds, why in the world don't they PROVIDE what they are ADVERTISING and CHARGING FOR?

its good you don't represent that 95% of users who won't be affected...

What you do to one, eventually you'll do to millions...
your arguments are weak though, not even worth replying to RR.

Re: It's too bad that the script kiddies

My arguments couldn't be any stronger.

The REAL issue isn't about what I think..you think..or anyone thinks about the bit torrent issue..

The issue is about the capabilities of cable hsi systems as they exist today.

What we see as users with powerboost is essentially the ENTIRE bandwidth that is available at that given point in time on that entire node, which is there to service 200 or more people.

The reason it works is because of the nature of the way that people generally use their connections. Meaning..I'm downloading while you're not and vice versa.

Comcast, nor any cable provider..is not giving a customer an unlimited 20MB pipe to the internet to use for their sole use. How crazy a business move would that be..and how unrealistic an expectation on the part of a consumer to ever expect that? That would cost the company thousands upon thousands of dollars per month..in exchange for a 42.95 /month return.

And, it's a VERY good system when it's used as it's designed to be used. If I need a file fast..it's there..very fast.
I'm on and off the network in seconds or minutes..versus the hours it may have taken before.

And, if I need something even larger on occassion..that capability is there as well..albeit at a slower speed when it's backed down to our caps.

Comcast is VERY generous when it comes to how much people can utilize their connections. 300 gigs a month is a LOT of data. It is a massive amount of data..available to be transferred at outstanding speeds. At a great price compared to virtually any provider out there when considering all the factors.

What there is out there is this very small minority of users however..for whom it's apparently not enough.
What you and they apparently do not realize however, is that if they were allowed to do as they wish..the entire network..for everyone..would come grinding to a halt.
24/7 seeding of p2p files..at the kinds of speeds that comcast offers we users..by a VERY few people..would take down a node.It is the technology that is at issue..not anyones desire to limit anyone from anything.

Because of this it is both reckless and foolish of the bittorent crowd to be attempting to do this.
They're only going to hurt themselves..as well as everyone else.

And, IMHO...what they would drive comcast and other providers to do is to institute bandwidth caps instead which dramatically altered their ability to download much over 30gigs per month without paying additional fees per gig.

These companies would be forced to make such a move if they couldn't monitor and regulate the kinds of traffic moving through their networks.
While it's great to kick and scream and blame the Companies..the fact is..it's the technology and really these people should educate themselves on how it works and what the ramifications are of this kind of behaviors.

And lastly, while you say I don't represent the 95 % of users who don't do this..I can guarantee you my opinion would represent theirs if they knew the facts and if the bittorent crowd is allowed to have their way.
Because that 95% would be screaming to high heaven when their speeds are grinding to a halt because of that minority.

And, the vast majority of users don't use 30 gigs per month anyway. While it might sound unpopular..the fact is..many would never even know it was there..and would never hit it.

Who would know however is the pirates when they woke up to find that they cut their arms off to spite their faces with their never ending abuse of this network.

Again, what I suggest is...comcast..just go right on ahead and put the 30gig caps in place.
Fight fire..with fire. And cut off this crowd who can't seem to get enough..and who the rest of us are supporting day after day.

Let them finally really start paying for what they've been taking right along. And let the rest of us stop paying for it. If they want to seed..let them seed to their hearts delight. Up to 30gigs. And then, pay for every gig over that. It simply won't matter to me, nor 9 out of 10 other users. And, the other 5 to 10%..oh well.
Lifes a bitch..ain't it.

And if Comcast starts bandwidth caps I'll be gone, Along with the other million or so users.

Comcast knows this and that's why they haven't done it.

So wake up and smell the beans. And stop talking out your ass like you know everthing.

And what the hell does script kiddies have to do with seeding? Seriously..your starting to get on everybody's nerves with your comments on "how godly comcast is."

Where will you go?, to DSL?. What do you think the DSL provider will do when a million users who left their current provider because of bandwidth caps hit their networks and flood it with P2P?. They will throttle it. They will have too, otherwise it will degrade their networks also.

I agree with you. It is a shame that the sales and marketing people use terms like "unlimited use" to sell their products. I suppose it isn't fair to say one thing and then do another.

I don't think he ever made the claim to know everything?. As an owner of an ISP, I can tell you that 80% of what he is saying is correct.

I have no idea where script kiddies came into play either. I just ignore it and read into the bigger picture.

If Comcast can't deliver the product then they should stop charging for it. Or, if they want to keep making great profit they will have to adapt and upgrade or change their networks.

Period. Attempting to gimp everyone so that they can maximize profits ought to be illegal.

So where is the copy of the internal memo outlining this to your comcastic bosses? or is this the copy?
