Also don't tick off the bread and butter

Tivo needs the cable/satellite industry to propagate their business. IPTV would put this revenue stream in serious jeopardy. Also, the internet as it currently stands is not robust enough to support this level of streaming media. Even if you do have fiber or cable to your house you're still dealing with 40 years of technology in between.
