We have a small office network with a couple of wirelessly connected macs, and a few wired windows PCs.

In the last few days it has gotten worse. I've been having it reboot spontaneously often, including when I access various admin pages (like the admin home page). Resetting to factory defaults seems to help with the spontaneous reboots when accessing the admin pages, but only for a little while. This last development helped convince me that these things are garbage.

The only thing that has given me any hope is this morning I reset to factory defaults and then set it to bridge between the ethernet and the DSL connection, then I took an old WRT54G I had at home and set it up as the router/firewall and to authenticate over PPPoE.

For the first time in a long time, I've seen 0.5% packet loss on my test pings. I don't know what the problem was, but so far, it seems that relieving the 2701 of doing anything other than bridging the connection has made it much healthier.

I'll see how it looks over the next few days. If everything checks out, I'll order a cisco router/AP/DSL Modem and send this piece of junk back.
