MajicJack Window Maximizes when phone used

I ordered this device and had it in 4 business days. I plugged it in and filled out the registration form. When I went to click next to register, I received the message 'Could not provision'. I connected to live chat tech support on their site within about 4-6 minutes and the rep stated that the server was going through maintenance. I tried again in about 20 minutes and got registered and had a dial tone. Besides that it was pretty simple and I am up and running.

After rebooting I tried to launch the application as there is no option to make it start automatically when windows starts and it told me to plug it in. It was already plugged in so I had to unplug and plug it back in again. After this I copied the launch icon from the desktop to the startup folder. I rebooted and it worked correctly starting without me doing anything else.

Something which is a minor nuisance is when you or anyone else in the house uses the phone, the interface maximizes on your computer screen while you are doing something else and you have to minimize it again. There should be an option to turn this function off.

Overall so far I am happy with this product.

SnakeEye,

I assume you are running Windows Vista and if that is the case it auto starts for some and for others it doesn't. I am one of the others.

I have been able to put the startup Icon that MJ puts on your desktop into the startup folder and have it auto run.

As far as the "Plug it in" problem go to there site and run MagicFix and also install the Vista update (even if you are using XP - per their tech support).

The pop-up effect is something you will just have to live with. I don't know of anyone that has defeated it. Trivia - the reason it pops up is for advertisement which is how they will make money. At the moment the left side of the softphone just contains MagicJack information but in the future it will contain advertisements.

Good luck.

I noticed that first off. Each and every time you even bump the receiver, it comes up. I got used to it after the fiftieth time, but also wish there was some feature to keep it minimized.

I've seen where there are some programs out there that do just that. I don't know anything about them and always feel shy adding some strange third party software I don't know to my machine.

Drag the app way off the the side and leave it there full sized.

Ah the KISS principle at its finest. Works for me thanks for the tip. As obvious as it is I would have never have thought of that one.

PS - Actually it looks like you could get it far enough off the edge of the screen you might not be able to get it back unless it resets itself during a reboot.

AKA "Happy camper".
