Moto had a great processor in the 68000 series... It was the heart of my Amiga computers back in the day...

They seem to be spending all their time and energy in court cases instead of improving their service and fending off competitors.
What competitors? They can just sue them for infringement.

As to Motorola, what the hell has happened to them?

They had a really great processor division, and the PowerPC chip, besides being a nice alternative to Intel for a bit was in more embedded devices than I can count. They slowed development (how long did they promise Apple some G4s that would compete with Intel??), then sold the business off.

They had a great handset business and used to have some of the best handsets available. Now they are lagging and looking at ditching that market.

Cable modems... meh. Not exactly revolutionary technology, and the market is only so big.

Where is their focus now? Why are they consistently falling behind their foreign counterparts?

In the long term, all this does is take their attention and money away from developing products and providing customer service.
No kidding. After last weeks mysterious outages and some ongoing handset trouble, my boss threw out the BlackBerry and picked up a Windows Mobile 6. I have to say, setting up the ActiveSync to work with our Exchange server was a lot less painless than getting a BES up and running, and DirectPush works just as fast as BES can push the e-mail to the BlackBerry. Overall, I can't say I really see the RIM advantage anymore.

Seems that RIM has a new sideline: patent lawsuits - ether defending against or filing them. And that can't be good for business. They seem to be spending all their time and energy in court cases instead of improving their service and fending off competitors. In the long term, all this does is take their attention and money away from developing products and providing customer service.
