| MetroPCS, Cricket, Revol are good for some
There are some who can't, or don't, leave their metro area very often, if at all. Cricket/MetroPCS/Revol (or any other "unlimited PCS" carrier) makes sense for these folks. Why pay for nationwide service and roaming that you can't use (or won't use very much)?
And for those who do occasionally venture out of town, there's always Page Plus, Virgin Mobile or Alltel U prepaids to fill the void (cheapest if they can get a hold of a used basic phone). |

Cricket lives on the fact that some people never travel as far as the city limits of their own town; primarily those in lower socioeconomic groups. In even a mid-sized city (100,000 or more), that's more users than you might think.
Any one of the major cell-phone carriers could increase their market share significantly if slowly if they really understood customer service, but none of them do - or ever will. They think it's all about their reps acting polite and friendly. If I have an issue I want resolved, I'd rather get someone dry and professional who knows what they're doing than someone friendly who doesn't have a clue and I end up getting transferred 4 or 5 times to wrong departments. |
