| How should I set up my security? wired/wireless/wireless
Hi, I am looking to set up some security for my current network. I have 3 routers, a DLink DGL 4100 which is the "main" router, it takes the internet connection from the modem. That goes to a Linksys wrt54g, which is connected through a LAN port. I also have a linksys 'N' router, connected by a LAN port from the DGL4100. So do I have to set up wireless security from each router? If I do, will I be able to seamlessly transition between them? Thanks for the help. |

| reply to Alex S I'm not too familiar with the "n" spec yet, but I believe your newer router has a compatibility feature for a/b/g networks. I'm not sure if there's a way to do automated hand-offs between them (in 802.11i fashion) unless they share a common management structure (that is, tied together by configuration). I could be wrong, but I somewhat doubt this will be possible unless you upgrade your device code to run OpenWRT (I'm assuming OpenWRT will have the functions necessary to do this ... I've never used it personally, so I'm reaching here; maybe someone else has some experience with it?). |

| reply to Alex S In addition make sure to use the same unique SSID on all three access point/router devices, as noted by digitalslurp the same encryption key (WPA2/WPA) and type, and three different channels, ie. 1,6 and 11 for example. Depending on how many of your neighbors have wireless networks you may need to adjust the channel selection some to find clear channels. -- "When all else fails, read the instructions..."
