So I just ordered Business DSL. =)

With SAFA now available and my home connection being restricted to Ultra speeds, I decided to order an additional DSL line--a standalone Business DSL Lite line. I chose the service with a 12-month agreement, making the cost the same as residential Lite.

It was getting to be a real pain in the behind having four home computers plus one machine specifically for telecommuting use sharing a 1.5Mbps connection. I previously had Xtreme 3.0 and had no problems with lack of bandwidth, but 3.0 is no longer available to me.

I plan on connecting my work machine to the Lite connection and using it solely for my VPN telecommuting. 768/128 will be just the right amount of speed.

My account representative was very easy to work with and quite diligent in getting my order processed.

Now...some install questions.

The technicians are going to have to run a new drop from the street for this DSL number.

I don't have a jack set up yet, but I can wire that.

Will they just install the NID and drop, and I can take care of the rest?

What has to happen?

Also, how does the registration process work?
When I ordered my residential DSL service back in 2004, I chose my login information over the phone.
I didn't have the ability to do that today.

Thanks,
Carl

The registration process has changed so that you will not select the username and password until after connecting your DSL modem and running the Installation Wizard CD. After running the cd, you'll be directed to a page where you can select your user info.

So now new users will not have the option of installing the worthless crap from the cd??

The short answer is no. The installation wizard will now just configure the modem with a dummy username and password so you can get online to the registration page. After you select your user info at the registration page, you have to accept the installtion of some software in order to complete the process. If you don't choose to install the software at that point, it will not complete the registration. Maybe you can uninstall it afterward or something..

Too the letter that describes the way new registrations are handled in the sbc regions of at&t. The first part of the registration validates the PPPoE login info.
In the sbc region the download/install of a application is to complete the setup of the new users portal page, it can be done without the software.

Do you know what domain new registrations are given?

Just some idea's
The "drops" should have more than one pair.
I remember that bellsouth seems to favor 2 line nid's, if you have only one voice line now and a 2 line nid or more no need for the nid or new "drop".

Bellsouth does inside wiring for free?
In sbc regions that would be a "professional install" with a $200.00 charge.

For the bellsouth region, their member ids will still be xxx@bellsouth.net.
