Re: $1.99 You have just discovered rounding error. When I started working for a Bell Operating Company Marketing Department many years ago, we sold Measured Wide Area Telephone Service (WATS Lines). One of our sales techniques was to point out to potential customers was that WATS Service was rounded to the nearest Six Seconds and that they were paying I believe 20% more than the advertised rate for Long Distance Service rounded to the nearest minute, due to rounding error. Wireless Broadband Service Providers should more clearly state that the usage charge is based on an aggregated rate which is the sum of uploaded and downloaded data. Verizon also mentions that the customer is responsible for the cost incurred for advertising downloaded to their handset browser by any website that they access.

Lake Zurich, IL | Nextel did the 6 second billing back in the 90s too while all the other carriers rounded up. That, free LD, and free incoming were their big sellers in their commercial strongholds (in addition to direct connect, of course). |
