[Speed] 20 Meg in Louisville Area

I signed up for the 20meg download service in the Louisville area and I'm only getting about 16down. Anyone else gotten this yet and have tested it?

It looks like their network is having load balance issues.

Just signed up an hour ago.
My first test gave 27 Mbps down but it has since tapered and is holding at a steady and consistent 20 Mbps now. I'm in downtown Louisville.

Keep in mind that no ISP guarantees any specific speed. If you are signed up for 20 Mbps, and are getting 16 (which is close), Insight is not likely to do anything to help you.

If you are using a router, try taking it out temporarily; perhaps it cannot pass more than 16 Mbps.

My speeds are better in the morning (20+)than in the afternoon (14-16) ... More people on the node, I guess. Barry

I've also signed up for the 2-Meg service, but haven't rebooted my modem yet. Even so, the connection "seems" faster.

Is a mode reboot really necessary for the change to take effect? Will test my dnld speed this evening.

Also, did those of you who changed get a different IP address after the modem reboot?

I recently upgraded to the 20MEG service last week and did not have to reboot my modem when they activated it. I'm in Northern KY area and my IP address did not change either.

I've used Insight's Speed Test sight to confirm I'm getting 18.94Mb down with out a modem restart and no change of IP address.

I would like to get signed up. How did you guys get in that?

What I would really like to see is a higher upstream rate. I am happy with the 10.0, but would like to see that in upstream also, or at least half that.

Go to »https://www.insightcom.com/offers/bb20.asp and enter your account info to see if it's available in your area. Last I read it was only available to a small group of customers who live in certain neighborhoods.

I live in downtown Jeffersonville and it's available here. I just signed on today, but tonight my speed is running 14-18, which I sort of expected.

I could be wrong, but I thought that the modem always has to be rebooted to load a new configuration file. Perhaps they rebooted it from the office, without requiring you to do this.

Any chance this gives you an increase in newsgroup speed? I can only seem to get 180kB/sec (6x30kB/sec) on 10.0 speeds

daveinpoway,
I reset my modem after your reading your post and it made no difference. It's been three days now and my speed has actually gotten worse. Other than Insight's own speed tests, can anyone recommend a good, accurate test sight? I have a few I used to use, but I need a second opinion.

I had a similiar problem when I first switched. Finally did an online chat with support and within a few minutes everything was working great. No problems since then.

The internal goal of most cable ISPs is 70% of the provisioning cap. In this case anything above 14Mbits/s is good. 20.0 means an approximate max of 20Mbits/s.

Is the Insight Broadband 20.0 service selling at all? I received another ad for their 20.0 service in the mail today. This is the second one I received in three months. I remembered hearing that it was only going to be available to a limited amount of customers, but it seems like they're working too hard to get customers to upgrade.
