@bell.ca | reply to d3ath Re: Switching from bell to teksavvy.
Would it be better signing up online or by phone. I have not placed an order yet since I don't want to pay twice for the same month service.
I've also never dealt with this stuff before, hope the installation isn't too difficult |

| If you've never dealt with it before then you should phone them. When you phone them all they do is fill out the online form for you, but they can advise you on what it means and all about installation.
If you're buying a modem from TekSavvy they will pre-configure it for you so setup will be easy. When talking to them they will ask you about your setup and they'll use that info to configure the modem so that you basically just plug it in and go.
I notice your domain is Bell so I assume you're switching from them. In that case all your phones should already be filtered so your setup will be pretty easy. |

| reply to d3ath hey guys i just called today and dennis from teksavvy said he can't make the activation date on the same date of the cancel date with bell and the activation will be on the march 25 or 26, is it a problem if bell pulls my card? If so, how can i fix it without them pulling my line card? Call teksavvy again? |

@bell.ca | reply to d3ath Well My activation is on the 4th, is it just a simple matter of plug and play (I took the option of purchasing one of their modems) or do I have to configure, since Bell cuts me off then I won't be able to come online to check.
thanks. |

Have you guys run into this? That is the norm for Bell. The situation above with the "Proof of Purchase" is a rare exception. Also if I am to switch to Teksavvy, did you guys purchase their modem? Is it an actual purchase are you somehow charged a hidden rental fee. You have three options: 1. Rent a modem from TSI and pay the monthly rental fee just as you did at Bell. 2. Buy a modem from TSI for a one-time fee. TSI will configure it and provide support but if the modem breaks out-of-warranty you will need to replace it. 3. Buy a modem elsewhere for a (usually) lower price. TSI will help with config/support on a best-efforts basis but technically that is all your responsibility. If you choose 3. do a search on "2Wire 2700HG." There are several sources of refurbished 2700HGs for $25 to $30. To clarify option 1, last time I checked TekSavvy offered a rent-to-own service. You payed half the cost up front and the other half of the cost over the next 6 months. After that you own your modem, it's basically just a purchase plan. This is correct, Option 1 is not a rental, it is indeed a rent to own =) -- TSI Rick - TekSavvy Solutions Inc. |

If your first month of billed service is next month, you won't be able to use your login until then. That was not my experience. The TSI account application process warns that your credit card will be billed as soon as your application has been confirmed. I signed up for TSI the moment I got a cancellation number from Sympatico. I indicated that the cancellation with Bell would be a month into the future. I was able to start using my TSI account as soon as I got and confirmed the login a few hours later. My credit card was billed immediately.
Now it may be possible to defer this when you apply, but (a) there does not seem to be a way to do that online and (b) since DrXenon already has his TSI login I assume it is now too late for him to do that even by telephone. |

| reply to d3ath Here's the relevant part of my confirmation email. It says my first day of service will be April 28, which would seem to imply that I'm not paying for service right now.
Thank you for your order!
Your up to 5.0 Megabit residential service is set to be tentatively activated on 4/28/2008 anywhere between the hours of 8am to 12am.
Your first bill was processed today, and your monthly prepaid billing date from now on will be on the 23 of each month, starting in May. |

Just to confirm, though, I won't be billed by TS for April, right? |

Your first bill was processed today, and your monthly prepaid billing date from now on will be on the 23 of each month, starting in May. Mine said essentially the same thing. My first invoice was dated the same date that I applied to TSI and got my login. The charge appeared on my online credit card account 3 days later. My second invoice was dated about 6 weeks after the first. Both invoices are for a full month of service so it seems I got a couple of weeks for "free." (Possibly this was an attempt by TSI to save me from having to pay both Bell and TSI during the overlap period.) |

| reply to nanook This changed quite some time ago....there were too many people abusing the system and it needed to change. Now the logins are not activated until a few days prior to the activation date. The activation date in this case is 4/28, so the client is paying every month on the 23rd for the 28th to the 27th. The first payment was processed today so that he could use the service from the 28th to the 27th.
