Go to Walgreens or some other store that sells green dot cards.. buy one and add like $5 to it or something.. change your credit card on vonage to it, let it sit. Unless their ok with you having a late bill forever they will eventually cancel you. |

| reply to zipjay You can also just change it to your bank card, and tell your bank not to let them charge you. Thats free, as long as you have had there service for a year, or you are in the free trail period. Have your documentation in case you do have to fight with them. Now if you are trying to cancel your service in the middle of that first year, and did not cancel in the trail period, you deserve to have to fight with them. Also, when I canceled without hassle I did so because I had to. EV-DO rev 0 just will not handle a Vonage call, but I liked the service. Personally I don't know why people who have to have a traditional phone don't just get a bare bones measured phone just for 911, and Vonage for there primary line. You can call more places and have more features for less money including the cost of basic phone. Besides that when I tested my 911 on Vonage the local police dept. answered, and told me my address. If you test this on your Vonage line call there phone # first and let the police know what you are wanting to test. The police do not like it when you call 911 as a test out of the blue. I hope this will help someone, and I agree having to fight to cancel or keep having to check to make sure your cancellation really happened when you have meet all of the agreed terms is wrong. |

| reply to SteveLV702 Great! And when the collection agency violates the FDCPA, which they ALL end up doing, then you sue THEM in court for up to $1,000, and then more so for punitive damages.. get the collection agency to pay the debt, AND clear your credit record. In the end, you win anyway.
I hate to say this, but the best thing for something to happen to someone is to let something go to collections.. the statistics show that about 90% of collectors violate your basic FDCPA rights.. and, with the right attorney, and there are enough out there, not a lot, but enough, they LOVE to put collectors in their place. |

Personally, I think eliminating the mode of payment without verifying that the billing has stopped is a bad idea. It could be very costly in terms of higher interest rates and insurance premiums. I'm not defending practices as Vonage is alleged to engage in. But, if I enter into an agreement requiring auto pay, I'd feel responsible to ensure it ends correctly.

| The last time this happened to me, it got me a national news spot on a major network, $28,000 settlement, and a mark removed from my credit all because a company tried to strong arm me and violate my rights. In turn, they got raided and shut down by the FTC, and their $400 million dollar racket came to an end.
All I had to do was pick up the phone, forward all the letters to the lawyer, make an appearance and lost 2 hours of my life.
It's not about being a caped crusader.. it's about standing up for your rights.
I don't get it however.. I'm a caped crusader for defending myself and taking a total of 2 hours of my time? .. and yet, it must be "fun" or "the right thing to do" to stand in the line of agony of the BS calls to a company that doesn't want to abide by the law? Is there a little hint of S&M enjoyment here?
If sitting on the phone "for hours and multiple transfers to argue over and over to simply shut off the service" is the way to go.. by all means, please do.
If "most people don't have time for this" then maybe they're lazy and really don't care about their own financial standing.. with that mentality, it's no wonder that people keep steam rolling over Americans.. their "too busy" to do the right thing. |

If it was such a profitable opportunity for lawyers and individuals, I'm sure we'd see as many (or more) teevee commercials as we do for personal injury lawyers.
Can I get the name and number of the lawyer? I'd be happy to give it a whirl and throw some business his/her way. I've just never seen a lawyer eager to take on something like this.
I don't think I'm unusual. Thus my opinion that most people don't have time for this and would be better served to either stay out of relationships that give the service provider too much power, or do what's necessary to make sure it ends correctly. I don't think that's equivalent to rolling over and peeing on my belly.

| I refer you to my off line message.
It's not "the lawyer"... any FDCPA or many Consumer Counselor attorneys will handle these kinds of cases. (They have to serve in your state)
You are right.. I agree with you.. most people don't TAKE the time to defend their rights. Bitching about it to anyone that will listen is SO much more convenient.
However, do you realize that the time that people take to come to sites like this, post their gripes, and so on, is actually more time consuming that doing the right thing? And, simply bitching about it will never get the job done.
I told you my success story.. my taking the time ended up ending my issue, setting things straight, paid me for my time and loss, cost me nothing out of pocket, AND, I, in the process, also helped thousands of other people because this company is no longer violating people's rights.
Still think it's not worth your time?
I will tell you, what actions people like me will take vs. these little (essentially) blog posts gets things done. These forum threads do really nothing that matters in the end with the view you post. If it's "not worth my time to do" then why even talk about it? the idea behind BBR is to also enlighten people AND get people to get involved. If all people are doing is bitching and are "too busy" to do anything.. then what's the point?
Actions speak louder than words. Sadly, however, MOST Americans are the type to sit back and let others do it for them..
my two cents.
Read your message I sent ya.. |

| reply to bp23 Do you really know what you're talking about?
SARO91201 is correct as posted... what exactly are these numerous laws that he's supposedly in violation of?
Also, where was it said that they were obtaining your SSN? It was stated that no SSN was needed to report bad credit.. this couldn't be any more true and has been going on for quite some time now. |

| reply to SteveLV702 Time to get a more anonymous prepaid credit card. My local mall is so cheap their gift cards are some prepaid Visa Debit cards. Can be purchased with no questions asked in person. I doubt a collection agency will supeona for CCTV tapes, then post a blurry pic of me in the post office. |
