| [RANT] Hughesnet...don't waste your money on it
Had the HN7000s for 2 weeks now through Galaxy in Canada. All I can say is don't do it. I am going to try to get my money back....not going to happen is it. Service at Galaxy is crap and when the speed comes to a crawl you can not reach service since they are flooded with calls I guess. You leave messages but they don't return calls. They should have good service when they are selling you the product. They tell you that you should be getting 70% of what they promised you(which seems wierd) but that is just via there own test. If you try your own test and your own pages they definetely do not perform anywhere near 70%. I am not sure if the problems is with the caching or other stuff they do to maximize bandwidth but some pages just crawl-going back to my dialup I then get the pages much much faster. Certain sites I can only get into with my dialup-such as my college courses. Tested with multiple PCs and always the same...taking PC back to dialup or to nieghbours house on competitors satellite systems and all works much better. I pay for 1 Mbps and even paid extra for the 2 watt transmitter to ensure it stayed up.

.... don't waste your time posting here as you have already decided to give up instead of asking for help. Most likely you got a lousy install which can be easily fixed if you want to. -- dw7000/.98m/2watt/Horizon1/1390/256k4/5 /xp sp2/desktop compaq 6330CA/linksys wireless/thinkpad xp pro |

| reply to t121 Wasn't a waste of money for me...would do it again in an instant. Beats the heck out of dial up 3 ways from Sunday if that is your alternative. As far as the OP goes since it's a new system you have to be proactive and stay on them until it's tweaked and done right. The more time that slips away the less chance you will have of getting them to make it right for you. These systems if correctly set up and tweaked do perform fairly well. -- HN7000S IA-8 1270 / 8-PSK 3/4 (14) / Router:67.142.140.95 /.74 1 watt / Pro / Pentium 3.2ghz, 1gb ram /Dual Boot WinXP Pro/LinxuS / Firefox 2.0.0.6 |

Install is perfect according to Galaxy and the installer. I am told this is what I should expect...no tweaking is needed and my values are higher than average. I personnally think the system is garbage. Wierd how their own speed tests all report similar values through out the day even though system comes to a crawl at peak hours. There speed tests actually show better speed test when it does come to a crawl...up to 85% of bandwidht sold yet in mid day when system is performing better there own speed tests are closer to 75% of bandwidth sold. I am sure it moves 80% of what you pay for like it says to satellite and back down but not to net-I am guessing this is why their speed tests never show the peak hour slowness. I realize their compressing and caching technology has to be crazy complicated to get the most out of the satallites bandwith but there is obviously issues since may people like my self see problems with certian sites. Problems you can't replicate on dial up or ADSL.
don't do it! now testing WiMAX...atleast it has 100% money back guarantee.
