Blast! Stealth Deployments (especially in FIOS areas)

FSX demo DL from MS
However, some routers *are* compatible with Blast! (Not just N/draft-N routers, but even most G routers, especially Linksys' WRT54GS and clones thereof; typically, it's wired-only routers that have the greatest problem, as they tend to be older.)

On that issue: this is a *heads-up* for *all* of Prince George's (MD) County: Comcast has (once again) failed to notify us (even via bill insert) of a planned upgrade (this time to CHSI). Effective immediately, all customers with the "speed tier"/Performance Plus tier CHSI package will be upgraded to the Blast! 16M/2M package at no cost. No notice, no warning. The only reason I even found out was a review of my modem logs earlier today (and I noticed a config file that was not typical).

Here's da proof:

DHCP: ACK: Setting (*) CM TFTP Boot file: d11_m_sb5120_speedtierextreme2_c01.cm

More proof:

The only reason I even knew about this was an *atypical* item in the modem startup logs. (Specifically, the modem configuration file is used *exclusively* by Blast!) No notice via e-mail, bill insert, or any other way that Blast! had snuck south of the Montgomery/Prince George's County line. (Note: Blast! is, AFAIK, *still* not offered in DC; however, given how much notice I got (none), I'm taking that with a large mine of salt.)

The hilarious thing is that I'm in a FIOS area (in fact, I'm one of the few CHSI customers in the subdivision), and Comcast has been insisting (rather loudly) that they won't be competing with FIOS on price. But speed increases (and at no increase in price) sure looks like *competition* to me....(even though FIOS' new 15/15 still hammers CHSI based on price/performance, especially if you have large upload traffic).
