Based on their previous track record, if and when they finally do attempt to add video conferencing it will be horribly broken, and totally dependent on some specific hardware configurations.

You would be much better served to have a look at some of the programs which already have video conferencing which works very well - ooVoo (free) and SightSpeed (subscription).
