Vista is the first Windows release since I have been running Windows 3.0 that I have absolutely zero interest in and zero intention of upgrading to. -- Put an end to apostrophe abuse. |

| reply to Jahntassa said by Jahntassa:I must've missed 'all the controversy' involved with Vista's release.. Apparently so. There are many good reasons to view Vista as WinME II, an unnecessary OS upgrade, particularly if you have money invested in hardware and software you still like that does not run well or at all with Vista. I just built two PCs that are fully capable of running Vista, but I don't want to have to pay to upgrade applications to newer versions that can work with Vista, or pay Microsoft's ridiculous prices for Vista, nor do I install OS's without stable SP1s when there are as many complaints about the OS as there are about Vista. (I realize that reason to not upgrade is about to vanish, but still... "never leap early" is a lesson I learned the hard way.)
The touted improvements in security are the only thing I personally miss sticking with XP. I don't give a rat's patootie about how pretty the OS is. Just give me an OS that can run my apps and hardware without a performance or reliability hit. |

| reply to wifi4milez I have linux, XP, Vista installed in different partitions.
I mainly use linux, so voted that way.
I boot the two Windows systems twice a week, usually just for a short time to allow virus scanners to update, but I sometimes use them for a short while.
Vista is great. It will do more to break up the Microsoft monopoly, and persuade people to switch to linux or a Mac, than anything the anti-trust division of the justice department has ever done.
It's hard to understand why anybody would actually like Vista. They even broke their games. Play "solitaire" on XP, and you quickly get action. Play it on Vista, and you get lots of eye candy but very little action. -- AT&T dsl; Westell 327w modem/router; SuSE 10.1; firefox 2.0.0.12 |

Other machine - No problem running Vista, but since it came with XP MCE 2005, there really is no reason for me to blow $400 for Vista.
If/when I get a new machine, it will have Vista in it. -- Think outside the Fox... Opera |

wifi4milezBig Russ, 1918 to 2008. Rest in Peace join:2004-08-07 New York, NY | reply to wifi4milez I personally run XP (Pro) on my primary and secondary PC's. I have tested linux on an 11 year old laptop (worked well enough) and an 8 year old desktop (the HD died) just for kicks. I wanted to upgrade to Vista right before it was released (yes, I bought into the hype), but as soon as it dropped I knew it wasnt for me. In fact, I am thinking about buying a new laptop and I think I am opting for an XP install with it. It seems everything you hear/read about Vista is related to it needing patches or not being compatible with your gear. I read someplace that MS is already well under way developing Vista's successor, and that it will be released in like 2 years. I will probably just wait for that OS and stick with XP for now. -- с новым годом |

| reply to wifi4milez I'm running Ultimate on a Mac Pro (Bootcamp) and its dog-slow booting (I've alot of RAM and there are some driver issues).
I cannot run this on my XP Pro Dell as it will cost me more to upgrade than to replace. And I am not ready to. Not yet. Maybe when the 45nm cores are cheaper.
So I voted Hell no, XP... |
