[XP Pro] two computers down

the major one is a desktop computer you turn it on and it shows the windows xp loading bar but that's about it then it goes to a blank screen and that's it but you can see by hdd activity that it's not locked up or anything like that.. anyone know if this can be fixed? seems like the client likes to click on a bunch of ads so this time around I need to figure out how to block that.

as for the laptop what happens is it loads into windows but it never shows the desktop icons just a wallpaper and that's it, however if you go to task manager and type in firefox it loads but its a little sluggish... however once you close firefox its back to just a wallpaper view i've never seen this happen before.

What did you do before these computers crashed? Possibly installed the not yet officially released SP3, by chance?

You could try the following:

1) Log in via Safe Mode and then do a System Restore
2) Repair Installation

Hope this helps.

This laptop is so infected I'm just going to format every time I close one thing in the processes tab it opens up again or something takes it's place.

The laptop I will have to come back to check up on.

Sounds like to me they both need a format, the Laptop sounds pretty severely infected.

Yeah I've never seen windows go blank right after the loading bar because I know they have the screen where you pick the users and it had 5 users on the screen but thats blank as well.

I'll be glad to help you fix these PCs, but I do charge a fee, Paypal me a retainer and I'll get them both running again.

I need something to keep them from doing the same stuff over and over.. I can't watch the habbits but I know in a 7 month span they always have a bunch of crap on it or a bunch of unknown tasks running I have never heard of before.

Are these work computers or just belong to some friends?
