[General] Cancellation process - need clarification

I am a Clearwire user and have several friends and clients that are too. This month I am coming up on my annual contract expiration date 2-28-08.

I have made several calls to Clearwire "support" to clarify the cancellation process. Sorry to say I get a different story every time I call.

The basic process as I understand it is-

- do nothing and you will be auto-renewed
- Clearwire will send notice of auto-renewal 30 days prior to contract expiration
- you must notify Clearwire BEFORE your contract expiration or renewal date if you wish to cancel service
- after notifying Clearwire of cancellation they email you out a return UPS shipping label
- consumer must return modem, power cord and network cable via UPS

Here is my area of concern-

When is the modem due back?

Is it due pre-contract expiration or _x_ days post expiration?

(It seems to me that if a I prepaid for 365 days of service that I should be entitled to all of it.)

However, my _main objective_ is to avoid contract renewal AT ALL COSTS. I do not want to do business with this company any longer. The service is acceptable but the company's business practices are highly suspect.

During one call to cancellation "support" I was told I could send the modem back "whenever I wanted" without penalty.

One of my associates posed the same question and was told-- "be sure and send in your modem before your contract expiration or else your contract will be auto-renewed."

I was later told that after the modem is received a refund is supposed to be issued on the cancelled account.

However, based on other user reports I am not really looking forward to chasing down a refund from this company.

Does anyone know how this cancellation process is actually supposed to work?
