Bandwidth Economics 101

Since
•content gets paid the more people view it
•content distribution (CDNs, Akamai, etc) gets more money the more bits they send
•wholesale ISPs get paid when CDNs send more traffic

while

•broadband has to increase their network to support additional content under a flat fee....

... perhaps broadband ISPs should just start charging those users that consume more bandwidth then their neighbors..

Enough with trying to play traffic games around the all-you-can-eat pricing.... just be done with it and use the utility billing model. If you use a ton, you pay the price.

I don't know about you, but I would rather not pay the water bill of my neighbor that leaves their sprinklers on all day long or fills their pool several times a summer. Why should I pay for your pirated DVD library

...but, if your ISP makes all their customers use less bandwidth wouldn't that be more profitable for them? and if that CEO shows he's cutting cost and increasing profit wouldn't that be his target?

Now, what vehicle could be used to accomplish that goal?

Only if the consumers whose bandwidth has been cut put up with it and keep lining Comcrap's pockets.

No. You don't need to reduce BW to address costs and profit margins. You just need to ensure extremely heavy usage is paid for. NOTE: Fewer than you think fall into this catagory.

You need to ensure as costs go up due to usage, revenue goes up along with it. The same model as content distribution, business and wholesale ISP.
