yay bad routing ;/

Trace to a UT2004 NY server I frequent. Ma, to chicago, then off to west coast and back. Any updates on that possible new backbone? Throw me a bone here hehe

Wow that is some odd routing, hopefully they get a new backbone.

Ya, I've noticed a lot more pl lately when playing ut2k4, over the last few months. I've used PingPlotter to take a look at the problem and it mostly looks like routers beyond GWI's backbone are suffering some % of packet loss.

Is this because the network hardware just can't handle the traffic?

You know, I often hear from my buddies about other countries that offer better/faster ISP service for cheaper prices.

Do you think, in general, an ISP's bottom line is dictating why they're apparently dragging their feet in getting their router hardware up to speed? *no pun intended...

Anyways, it stinks, and it doesn't seem to be getting better.

Also, it crosses my mind that some of this poor network performance might be because our lovely government is inserting itself everywhere on the Internet. What's that saying? "Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get you." ha!

GWI uses lower to mid end backbones for their traffic, Gamerail was helping me though that did cost $11 per month but they just stopped trading so now we are at the mercy of GWI's backbones, seems like GWI is pinching pennies to me, even with the cheapo modems they send out now.

Still better then the alternative. RR piped all it's traffic across their backbone for 4 months before I gave up on them. Nothing like hitting LA trying to traverse to Pittsburgh.

they are all bad routing. even cable.
I was just checking on GWI for my downtown bangor address...
is faster than 3mbit possible? I am shutting voice dial tone off, and seeking a better internet. I am verizon-fairpoint, and all is well except for seom really serious voice dial tone problems. (no it is not the 25 cent filter from china failing)

I am also into low pings for occasional game addiction...
35ms is as good as I have seen in 10 years to think about.
I have found other internets on verizons treat-me-like-a-low-life answer of "no", going much faster on the same darn locale....

I really want the 1mbit upload, if it means slower than 3mbit d/l. That lopsidedness makes me wanna go evil.synchronous is a winner.

It looks like GWI has lit a link to Qwest now.
