Re: What you expect Charter to *do* something?

There are several examples of companies with no profits and negative bottom lines which Wall Street absolutely wet themselves over. Hype drives the market, not necessarily results.

That's what profit margins and bottom lines lead to

Wall Street cares about profit margins and the bottom line, they don't care about 16 Mbps vs 10 Mbps...unless it translates to new and/or retained subscribers.

Much of these announcements are little more than a dick waving contest for the benefit of Wall Street. Customer wants are usually at the bottom of the priority list.

Not necessarily always true. These companies are out to make money as you know. What better way is there to make more money? that's right, OFFER MORE. That little email that Charter sent out is only a way to fluff up the customers to lead them to believe that charter cares about what the customer says.

Of course it's because of competition. But if the customers aren't asking for bigger throughputs, then competition would be irrelevant assuming other variable are equal.

Are you suggesting that the customers haven't made such statements or requests?

**DING DING DING - WE HAVE A WINNER!**
"Given Charter's limited finances, this tier will only be deployed in select location where competition warrants."

I have Charter and the plant around here was upgraded a while back. I have no doubts the infrastructure here can handle 16mbit, however I'm *not* holding out hope for the upgrade any time soon because there is simply no competition in this area besides Verizon DSL (Fios is still a loooong ways away) and Charter's current 10mbit is in reality pretty good.

I guess this is my biggest gripe: Announced upgrades never get to us outside the "top 15" markets or whatever, we're always in last place, bottom of the barrel...
