| New DSL account, speeds terribly slow
I have had the yahoo dsl for about 3 days and had it connected to only one computer. When downloading, it's impossible to surf the internet at the same time. I have the modem going into a router and am able to get 2 pc's on at the same time as long as I am not downloading anything. The other computer can't hit a webpage as long as something is downloading. Is this normal? I came from a state that had cable and I got awesome download speeds. But as of right now, they are pathetic. I was told by some other people in another forum that I was probably on the 10 day ramp period. Any thoughts or suggestions would be nice. |

I had a "slow" problem and it turned out att had some settings incorrectly set. |

| reply to BoboJaymz Mine are slow also. I am only getting the express package (its all that was available) and I get 320s down and 320s up. I called and after much discussion I was told there was a 10 day optimization period. Also I was informed my speeds could be as low as 384 down and 128 up and still be considered "good" by their standards. Thats a far cry away from 1500 down. I wonder who set that # up as a minimum. | reply to BoboJaymz I've had their service for almost 2 years. I just started using utorrent and my rates went from 2Mbit down and 600 kbit up to 800k down and 86k up.
You think they're governing the flow???? Probably an incorrect setting...I must be doing something wrong. |

| reply to BoboJaymz I just switched from Comcast because I got DirectTV, download was initially 700K, but now has dropped to 300K, modem is still synced at 768K. At least when GoogleWifi is working I can get 900K/900K, but I would prefer to get the advertised rate for $19.95. |

| reply to BoboJaymz What happens is that when you are first hooked up, you are capped at 384kbps, then an automated system supposedly logs onto your line and ups your speed to the fastest it can support, at or below the speed your paying for. you need to leave the modem on and hooked up with good sync for that,, if ya don't,, no speed increase. The fools in Bangladesh don't have any clue about it, so you need to go to layer 3, that is ASI and have them do it manually. I used to work for them from 99 to 2002. that was my job and that's how I know. C. |
