| One minute delay before connecting...
This just started, shortly after doing some Windows updates, although that may not be relevant. I have a Golden DSL account and use a Gnet BB0040 modem to connect and it works fine except for this. I don't have a router.
I use a desktop shortcut to go online, rather than stay connected all the time. Previously, I would activate the connection, then open whatever program I needed to use the internet, like my browser or email, and it would connect immediately. Now it takes 60 seconds - exactly.
This also occurs on my other computer, using the same modem, although I don't remember if I was updating Windows on this machine.
I cannot find any settings anywhere which indicate a 60 second delay, so I'm stumped.
First machine is Windows XP Home, SP2, with all relevant Windows updates. Second machine is dual-boot: Windows XP Pro, SP2/Windows98SE.
I haven't changed any settings which might account for this. I have also tried disabling my firewall temporarily, and it still takes 60 seconds. Windows firewall is off.
I only have the basic programs for Windows startup, like AVG, Zonealarm and a couple of tiny ones I've used for years with no problem.
Can anyone suggest areas in which I can look to resolve this annoyance? |
