 [DW4000] DW4000 gateway/transponder changes?

I've been browsing the threads and see a few folks with DW4000 systems have had problems recently. I'm wondering if mine is related.

My question is whether you DW4000 folks who had problems had good "ready" lights and no error messages from the DW software and yet still couldn't connect.

I'm just wondering if I should risk running web setup (always a nightmare) or wait and see if the situation resolves itself. I've been unable to connect/ping/do ANYTHING requiring Internet access since 5:15 am this morning. And I don't particularly want to call CS unless all else fails...

Right now I'm on G11/1070 with a default gateway of 66.82.10.50. And everything has been absolutely fine until this morning.

Any thoughts or advice welcome.

I suspect that Hughes may have you scheduled for a transponder and gateway change, just like the other guys. But sometimes the old PC-based software would simply lock up. If you haven't already, power cycle the IRU/ITU by removing the plug at the wall socket. Count to 30, plug it back in. If that doesn't get you back online in a minute or so, uninstall and reinstall the Direcway software.

If that doesn't work, we'll move on from there to WebSetup.

Thank you for the advice, fortunately everything came back online a couple of hours ago without a reboot or unplug or anything. So definitely something on the Hughes end of things, just hate not knowing what.

Cheers,

unfortunately i did the websetup and now i am slower then a 56k modem connection, i have been on the phone 2 days with direcpc/earthlink and they are giving me the run around saying it is my web browser/pc with the problems.still searching for an answer to the problem because they seem to not want to help me with this...great money spent @ 69$ a month huh?

When you run WebSetup on PC-based systems Rob, any broadband tweaks you've installed are over-written with Hughes and/or Windows default values. If in fact you've got a PC-based modem (DW3000/4000/et cetera), try re-applying DrTCP or whatever performance enhancing utility you've been using.

I personally avoid web setup (and anything else requiring validation/verification/anything like that) like the plague, as it has rarely helped me (and usually makes things worse). A couple of years ago they changed my transponder and I had to go through the web setup nightmare (the only time I ever called CS) and spent several months using dialup to transmit, as the transmitter just didn't want to work. Then one day the transmitter miraculously decided to work again. And was still fine a year ago when I moved the whole setup to a new computer, I was shocked but relieved (I have generally low signal strength - ~60 is the best I get - so have trouble reaching a good enough signal to get the transmitter "oked" by the powers that be, although once that happens I'm good for months or years...)

We have wireless here the last few years, users complain about speeds but I am very close to switching over as I think I'd rather have a bit lower bandwidth that is not dependent on weather and Hughes' decisions. And it's cheaper ($50 vs $90/month, unless I want better speed, then it goes WAY out of Hughes price range), but prone to it's own set of problems (rural area, power outages and executive decisions make it as much of a monopoly/nightmare as Hughes is). And when the satellite works (mostly) it works well, hence my reluctance to change....

After 5+ years it is definitely a love/hate relationship...and I keep TWO dialup accounts active in case things aren't going well (my livelihood depends on being connected), but I think I'd have to do that with the local wireless as well, so at this point I don't know the best solution.

Don't you all just envy the city folk with instant access to all the broadband options that are out there? I know I do...

Cheers,
