Verizon/Fairpoint

It is sooooo...sad....Verizon union workers crying that they don't want this deal....they didn't want the Fios deal..it was sharholders barking for the new services not the workers...it all boils down to OVER PAID & UNDERWORKED techs who want business as usual...stop at the NID/NIU do nothing for it's customers...over charge for old school DSL and analog phone services via twisted pair cooper and hope for the best...At this point bring on Fairpoint...they CAN'T DO ANY WORSE than those clowns over at Verizon...Fairpoint needs to complete a FIOS type rebuild and compete with CATV and other providers...Verizon can drop dead in my book...they have set the bar soooooo loooowwww that Billy Bob and his cousin could step in and do a far better job..But thats my two cents..

What are you talking about.

With telecom deregulation Telco's responsibility ends at the NID. They also no longer rent telephone equipment. As an extra cost service they will install and maintain inside wiring.

FairPoint has no intention to expand FIOS. They stated they will maintain currently installed FIOS but the only broadband they are talking about is expanding DSL footprint into areas not currently served. I assume they are going to be installing Remote Terminals in rural areas to reduce wire distance but am not sure.

Simple enough. The interface is where a communications provider ends their responsibility. If you have an issue inside your network, hire billy bob (likely cheaper). Of course you can hire the provider - their issue, their cost.

Then again, who cares what the unions think. No one asks what any other employees of a company think. Good point.

On the other hand, don't expect too much from fairpoint.
Last time I googled em, they are just an investment firm looking for a dividend, not bad, just not good either.

Sorta like asking your bank to provide buy your telephone/gas/electric/isp/ company.

with most of the southern maine and southern nh towns already rebuilt via fios or a close cousin of sorts the remaining towns that were part of the original verizon footprint for rebuild would have to be completed via fios..and meaning about the nid is that field techs will do anything..and i mean anything to avoid going beyond the NID/NIU...they come up with excessive charges or even better make up charges so the customer is left with throwing his or her hands in the air and saying screw it i'll make due or just call the competition..sad when you are unwilling or just plain lazy...(union mentality) to do even sub par work for your paying customers as they walk away to comcast or metrocast or time warner...the phone company has truly let down the masses or what is left of them inside verizons network

You would guess correctly about the remotes. when I worked for Fairpoint this was how they were able to bring DSL to so many rural areas that were located miles away from the C/O

However, they we experimenting with some other devices around the time I left. These were DSLAMS that could be mounted on the poles and they were testing a solution that could push DSL service out beyond 18,000 feet. I of course can not comment on how well it worked or not.
