That's actually a trial version of AVG Pro. The only "free" versions are 7.5 according to the AVG Free site...

AVG 8 Known Issues., BSOD

"AVG8 is known to cause BSOD! Confirmed by their technical support as we rolled it out late last week and 4 servers BSOD over the weekend. Be aware there is no known solution as of yet."

There's a new update on AVG (formerly Grisoft) site, version 8.0.85. I've been looking at the site to see what is fixed, but found nothing.

I've had a terrible experience with v8 so far, I had to roll back 3 stations and a server to v7.5. This seems to be a trend in all AV or now known as Internet Security companies, their latest and greatest version are bloated and full of bugs (Take NOD32, Norton, AVG as examples).

I received the update to 8.0.85 this morning, and could not find on the site what the fixes were either.

I guess the experience goes with the individual rig regarding AVG 8. I installed it on my daughter's laptop late last week and it really slowed the surfing down. Slow enough she made me switch it back to 7.5. On the rig I use it ran the same as with 7.5, so I'm continuing to use 8.0 currently. It is odd though, as we have similar cpu speeds, the same ram, but very different results.

I've been running the 60 day trial fron Iobit of the suite. The new version is very tempting but I think i'll let my trial run out and perhaps the bugs will be fixed in the new version by then.I'm running Vista Home Premium.
