Re: Switched from Insight? Post here

If yours was anything like mine in the Peoria,IL. area.... I feel like we have been sold down the river! I had excellent service with insightbb and even was provided with a decent newsgroup connection absolutely free.

Well, that ride is over and now I am stuck with Comcast until July, when hopefully I will be moving to an area that is Comcast free! I Can't wait!

So far myy experience with Comcast has been like a lot of others in central Illinois....CRAPTASTIC!

So when I move, I will naturally tell them what they can do with their craptastic service!

Yep, 30ms is about 2x more than it should be.

I can get a 11-12 latency to chicago with Comcast's Cbone

Its just poor routing

Noblesville, Indiana to Chicago, Illinois is about half the distance of San José, California to Irvine, California:
He is pinging 30ms to a point no farther from Noblesville than San José is from San Luis Obispo, California; considerably shorter distance than Irvine.

Can someone with an Insight connection post a traceroute to 5.4.3.2 ? I'm curious where the first router sits that has a full Internet routing table; that's where the traceroute will die, all the routers that respond are following a 0.0.0.0 default route up to that point.

Example:

That would mean the 7600 that front-ends the CMTS is carrying a full routing table. Surprising, because RSP720XLs are expensive.

If they kept Insight's AS number after the transition then Level(3) via Chicago or Level(3) via Atlanta would be the same number of eBGP hops away, so route selection would come down to a coin flip by the BGP best-path algorithm unless the metrics are influenced by adjusting the localpref value to make Chicago routes win.

I have not done a speed for a couple of days. Well, you can see the results of this stuff.

Depending on whether it has been rolled out in your area, it could be ... just like all Comcast customers. Once you have been fully migrated, you become a Comcast customer, for better or worse. Thus, you get to wait and see if/when Blast speeds will be implemented where you are.

Check the first post in this topic. I am trying to update it as we get confirmed reports of this speed tier becoming available in various areas.

So far, the confirmed reports for Indiana are in this subthread ---> »16/2 and 12.2 Tier Availability in Indiana

You will find a link to that Indiana topic in the first post in the Blast thread.

n your web browser go to »192.168.100.1/ to access the cable modem diags.
From there "reboot" your modem. Or pull the power for 1 min and plug it back in.
Under "LOGs" »192.168.100.1/logs.htm look for "TFTP Boot file: d11_m_sb5120_speedtier_c02.cm" (rather, look for your .cm file)

this is what I have
DHCP: ACK: Setting (*) CM TFTP Boot file: d11_m_sb5120_insightstandard_c01.cm

DHCP: OFFER: Setting (*) CM TFTP Boot file: d11_m_sb5120_insightstandard_c01.cm

when I use newsbin and giganews it maxes out around 9

I'm no expert, but my guess is that your caps have not been changed since the transition. If/when you do get Blast caps, you would probably see the word extreme in that config file name. Thus far that has been true, anyway.

This post and a few following it may give you an idea of the naming convention Comcast has been using for these config files ... at least those we have discovered thus far.
