From Peoria, Illinois (from your sidebar information) to Net Access Corporation on the East Coast in only 44ms, and you are worried about the routing? That is about 10ms longer than I trace route from San José, California to Los Angeles, California. In only about double the distance.

BTW, I traced to your third, fifth, and eighth hops. The Comcast 'ibone' is a mystery to me. 3 and five look close (to each other) from here, 8 looks farther from here than it shows on your trace route. But I am reasonably certain from poking around from San José, California, that hop 6 is not anywhere closer to Connecticut than Chicago.

From what I can see by tracing route from California, you aren't going to the East Coast until hop 9; and that looks farther out from California than western Pennsylvania (Pittsburgh), more like eastern Pennsylvania (Philadelphia).

From where I sit, the Comcast 'ibone' host names do not match the expected latencies for the geographic locations. I'd take those host names with a large crystalline lattice of sodium chloride.

Latency to Columbus is 28 ms. Latency to the first Indianapolis hop is 29 ms. A 1ms delta; not bad for meandering all around the place, eh? I get a 2 ms delta from my computer to my DSL modem; and those are separated by a 6' Cat 5e cable from the computer, a router and a 1' Cat 5e cable to the modem.
Another 1 ms to the next Indianapolis hop. 3 ms from there to Chicago, and a total of 65 ms (average) from Chi-town to the nation's Capitol. Frankly, I don't see a problem (except that the host names on the 'ibone' do not seem to accurately reflect the actual geographic locations of the equipment.

The switch happened here in Anderson,In. just after midnight. Speed tests look great so far, keeping my fingers crossed.

Same here on the northside of Anderson. Switch made in the middle of the night. No need to reboot. Download and upload twice as fast..

After being switched yesterday (Monday 3/3), and having very slow speeds all day, here's this morning's speed test:

So, it appears I'm getting something like 4/768 (which is a slight improvement over yesterday). I should be getting 10/1, plus maybe some kind of power boost, too (I think). However, the latency to Chicago is about the best I think I've ever seen.

Any thoughts? Should I call it in, or should I wait and see since it's only been about 24 hours or so since the switch?

Here's some more info re: my slow speeds after switch over from Insightbb:

I should be getting 10/1.

Here's some info from my modem status pages... the Max Bit Rates appear to be correct... but good speed isn't happening. However, I like the 35ms to Chicago... it was usually 55-70ms with Insight.

Also, I always got good speeds prior to the switch yesterday, and nothing has changed on my end - same modem, same router, same PC for the speed tests, etc.

From my modem:

I got a new IP this morning (one that's very different from my previous sticky IP I've had for months with Insight), and it's in the 98.223.233 subnet with subnet mask of 255.255.248.0. My speed dropped! Below shows what I am getting now:

Here's a test that's physically closer yet thinks it's farther away:

I am supposed to get roughly 10Mbps down and 1Mbps up under Insight and my letter (see above 3 posts) says I'd get the SpeedBoost™ to 20Mbps down. I did a series of tests yesterday with lots higher speed. Now that I'm on Comcast, I'm not sure what to do to get back where I should be. I used to get >10Mbps and >1Mbps up. Thoughts?

All that the ARIN Whois lookup does is proves that Comcast is responsible for the IP addresses in the 68.80.0.0/13 block of IP addresses.

Latency is variable across the board; hard to say why.

Tracing your Google IP address from the West Coast puts it in Chicago, or thereabouts; little different from what I see.

Hop six is a lie. My trace route to that IP address puts it in Chicago (from San José, California), despite the host name claim to be in Boston:
Boston is more like 90ms to 100ms from San José, California. Nor is Comcast the only ISP with host names at odds with geographic locations. Trace route back toward you from my San José, California location:
My hop 6 is nowhere near Saginaw, Michigan, despite the host name. Latency say south S.F. Bay Area.

What you are left with is a wide variation in latency beginning with hop 3. If you run 'ping -n 120 68.85.178.161', you might find some interesting information. That is from a Comcast poster, here, K Patterson See Profile, I think; in another thread. He went higher than my suggestion (-n 100), and wanted the first hop past the CMTS.
