Fishers, IN just switched last night. Looking at my IRC logs, service was off from just before 1AM until just after 5AM.

Lost InsightBB IP address at 3:00AM, gained Comcast address at 5:30AM. No sense yet of performance gain/loss.
Now then: where is it documented how much longer our InsightBB e-mail addresses are good for? |

| reply to Sith HMP We were on Comcast when I got home last night in Bedford, IN. Hopefully things stabilize a bit. I had numerous problems with getting to web pages, even Google. Some times I would get to a page no problem, next time it would set for a long time trying load, then pop up. Even google would take upwards of 30-40 seconds to load at times. My son also complained that his Xbox live account was having all kinds of trouble. Hopefully they will fix this quickly. Also received my first Comcast bill 2 days ago. |

@comcast.net
| reply to Sith HMP 48 hours after being switched in Lafayette, IN I still don't have the 10/1 speeds that I should have...

I've had a consistent 4/768 the entire time.
I suspect that my modem is config'd wrong. (I posted the config data yesterday in this thread)
Prior to the switch I had zero troubles - full 10/1 or better all of the time (even during peak periods), from all of my PCs, using the the same router and modem.
Anyone else in Lafayette having this problem? If it is just me then I guess it's time to call in for a fix... if it is widespread, then I can be patient and assume it's being worked on.
Thanks for the help! |

| reply to Sith HMP I too have been switched from insight to comcast in illinois. Before this I would get the full 10mbps speed 24/7 no matter what time of day. After the switch my connection goes down all of the time. Kind of frustrating playing games online only to get a lag spike and die on Everquest. If anybody has ever played that game then you know that a lag spike is all it takes to die.
Comcast is crap and I am thinking about switching to DSL since it actually has good uptime. |

| reply to Sith HMP For those who have lost their "sticky IP" from Insight: how are you getting a new IP? I talked with Comcast and they are saying that the only way to get a static IP is to go with a commercial account.
Is there a way to purchase a static IP from another source? Would I have to get a second ISP (such as DSL) just to get another static IP? |

| reply to Sith HMP here in Bloomington, IL we have just been switched. No real issues for me but a customer has had nothing but problems accessing any kind of web based email from home.
I think it's his router settings but I'm not sure. won't get a chance to look at it till Saturday. His kid tinkers with things so there's probably a static dns setting somewhere. |

Is there a way to purchase a static IP from another source? Not over your cable connection. You have to get your IP address from Comcast if you are connect to their service. -- Norman ~Oh Lord, why have you come ~To Konnyu, with the Lion and the Drum |

| I should have made this clear before: I need a 2nd IP that would be static. With insight you could get a "sticky IP" that worked OK. Not happening with Comcast though.
I am ok with getting comcasts dynIP for everything except some surv. cameras I want to access over the internet. That device needs a static IP. |

It's interesting how they've changed the routing during the day.. Couple traces to Google are quite different.
This was this morning:
And just now, 11 hours later:
There's a couple more steps after each. But, in the morning I was going to Boston then Chicago. Now it's Nashville, Atlanta, then Chicago.
Speedtests still look good.
And too have gotten my first Comcast bill. Due on receipt. |

The short speed tests say 33,000kb/s, complete horsesh*t. I don't believe "PowerBoost" really helps anything. |

but when downloading a larger file it looks like after a couple of seconds my speeds get capped at around 10Mbps.
Still 2x faster than the speeds i got with insight |

said by perryw :It's interesting how they've changed the routing during the day.. Couple traces to Google are quite different. Traces to Google will vary with the time of day. Google has many POPs, and when some get busy, you will get routed elsewhere. I normally hit Google very close by: But I have seen times when I get routed farther out (I currently have no recent examples). Makes Google a tough target for comparative trace routes. Yahoo! is probably the same; large user base, server access congestion. It is probably better to find a fixed target for comparisons.
