Non Contract prices are going up...

They 'were' typically $2 more than contract prices, but it looks like they'll be $12 for most tiers, except 6008/768 on AT&T.

George, let me know if I can get a ~4.5Mbps/768kbps on my line to at least make it worth it for m2m.

I would be happy to take a look if you send me your username. I wasn't able to find it in my IM. If I recall I don't believe that you do.

Sent

I think I'm near the limits of what I can get for being at +10,000'

Note: Attainable rate is typically ~ 5Mbps range.

Re: Non Contract prices are going up...

Thanks for sending over your account information. I took a look and the 3 Meg is the highest service we can order for you.

Thanks

Re: Non Contract prices are going up...

George, what would happen if I attempted to order it through your online update during the night, when it never reports properly (i.e. it gives me the option of m2m for 6Mbps/768kbps) ?

Re: Non Contract prices are going up...

The order would get canceled during the processing process by the phone company.

I'm on the AT&T direct forum to see if there's any way they can fix it.. Doesn't look like it.

Have you tried a NID splitter? Not a filter or the cheap little $5 gadgets you plug in before phones. NID filters separate voice from data at the NID, before anything enters your home. It won't always help, but often will if you live in an older home (old wiring=bad) or your phone lines go near some power source that adds "noise" that bleeds over into your data spectrum.

Without a NID filter, I was at 384/128. After installing one, I went to 768/3xx on "fast". After some arguing, I was moved up to 1536/5xx on interleave with no problems to speak of. I'm well over 15' from my CO.

Just an idea.

Re: Non Contract prices are going up...

I actually had something similar originally put in by AT&T a while back - made no difference here, as the wiring is actually good inside the house.
My issue is actually distance. AT&T will not qualify me for 6Mbps/768kbps at +10,000'.
My line stats are good enough for ~ 5Mbps /768kbps sync.
AT&T by default won't allow me to order anything better than 1536/384kbps due to distance :p, even though line stats show that I could hit 6080/1000 (although not really stable). My line stats are pretty good.

Re: Non Contract prices are going up...

You are really going to fight an uphill battle getting AT&T to allow an 'Elite' profile on your line after all of the trouble reports and stability problems you've had with your 3m service.

My guess is your only hope is probably going to be to switch to a Covad based service, who usually has less strict rules with its qualification distances. I don't know what DSLX's relationship with Covad is like these days, and the changeover process might involve downtime.

Re: Non Contract prices are going up...

I'll most likely either:
a) Try out Time Warner (not sure how the cutover for voice will work)
b) Migrate over to Uverse
c) Stick with DSL-Extreme
d) Go dry loop DSL + VoIP.

Covad is very pricey.

Of course, those trouble reports were before Uverse cleanup

Do you mean Time Warner's phone service? In my case the cutover was completely seamless. When my due date arrived they showed up at my house with a combo cablemodem/voice adapter (with backup battery). I could make outbound calls immediately. Then they dialed into a provisioning server. Within a couple minutes of them doing that I could receive calls as well.

And you kept your existing number?
How long before that did you have to 'cut' AT&T/DSL-Extreme ?

Yes. On day of install, TW technician called me on my AT&T phone number to let me know he was on his way. By the time he left 30 minutes later, my same number was receiving calls over Time Warner's line. AT&T automatically stopped billing me, and even automatically decombined my wireless billing.

I switched to cablemodem before getting VOIP, so I'm not sure if having DSL on the line has any additional time implications.

Given that this is a DSLX forum this is going a bit OT. So for others reading, I would like to point out that my service with DSLX was always top notch. Hopefully someday AT&T will allow them to resell U-verse-based broadband so they can offer faster speed packages for speed junkies like me.

Re: Non Contract prices are going up...

I agree - it would be nice if DSL-Extreme had access to Uverse, especially since AT&T doesn't see Uverse Internet as standalone.

The only real reasons for thinking about going elsewhere is:
a) POTS (yeah - I do use my phone number)
b) Cost of 'Pro' m2m approaching 'Elite', and I can't qualify for elite, or even a capped Elite.

As long as there aren't any increases in the near future, I don't plan on migrating, and it wouldn't be until at least August for a triple/quad bundle deal.

If it was just price, I probably would have 'jumped' at a bundle deal for VoIP and Internet from either AT&T or TW.

DSL-Extreme has worked very well, and is typically very responsive to issues, and I don't _really_ need higher speeds. I wish the DSLX could sell dry loop or Uverse, as their service has been very good for me.
