The user could type in anything they want and update it at any time, and so it would say, "So and So is doing such and such".

Facebook has statuses, so that is where I am getting the idea from, I think it would be kind of cool. Either that or your current mood. The mood could be a dropdown list that you choose and can change whenever your mood changes!
