[ADSL] Voyager 205 and VoIP

Wanted to post this to perhaps others in the future.

I have multiple VoIP lines at a temporary apartment that has BT ADSL and the Voyager 205 router. My connections is Voyager 205 Linksys WRT54G WAN Port PC's and IP Phones.

The problem was the Voyager 205 periodically locks up. All lights on the front panel illuminate and the you have to power off and power back on. The lock up happened randomly (sometimes in the middle of the night when nothing was being used).

The Voyager 205 is a full router and unfortunately, it's crap. It has an ALG (Application Layer Gateway) function that's supposely VOIP aware. Well it isn't. I telnet'd into the box (typically 192.168.1.1) and deleted it's SIP capabilities using the command ...

delete alg port portno 5060 prot any

Then rebooted the 205 again. 24 hours not a single problem.
