iPod Touch Suddenly Stops

I just started experincing a problem with my iPod touch last night and then again this morning.

I would be listening to music and nothing else and then a new song would start that I have listed to before and 10 seconds in it stops and the unit sort of freezes. I hit the button slide the bar to unlock and it goes back to the menu screen where I can then start listening again.

Has anyone else experinced this problem and what causes it? Also, how can I fix it?

This might sound stupid, but have you tried different headphones? Does it still do it with those?

Why would headphones cause that?

Doesn't the music stop when the headphones are pulled? Maybe a bad connection.

Yep...not sure which iPod started coming with that feature but that's by design. Bad/loose connection could cause it to "Pause" but the Pause would be indicate on screen.

True...I was just trying to think of some scenario.

It's a great thought...most people would never consider the cord to be the cause.
And it certainly could be...not a done deal in this case yet but always needs to be considered.

Yeah but the cord is fine and never lose when the problem occurs.

IT does not pause the music but resets and I have to choose a playlist or say shuffle all again.

It sounds like one of your audio files is corrupt and causing the Music application to crash.

Try erasing all the music off your iPod and resyncing. Also, what happens if you play the song that causes it to reset on the computer?

I have gone back both times and played the song without a problem and they both work fine on itunes. One is a song I ripped another is one I downloaded via itunes.

Hrm. Have you tried doing a complete restore of the iPod yet?
