LOTRO - Still anti-solo at high levels?

Earlier this year I jumped into LOTRO and had a relatively decent time for a few months. It was a nice change from WoW, although I must admit I was surprised my me missing the overly flashy graphics I used to criticize WoW on. That said, I enjoyed the newness of the game, and the way it was set up.

At least until my mid 30's.

At this point, especially when I unlocked the epic trait trees but then read what I needed to do to actually get the good ones, I began to lose a lot of interest due to the massive group focus. I couldn't do much without a group, and due to a fairly buzy work schedule, plus only playing after wife & kids have gone to sleep, I could never have a steady group. Finally, out of real ways to do much as a solo player and enjoy it, I left. I saw many posts on the boards complaining in the same vein.

Back in WoW now for many months, I'm bored again. I enjoy the interaction in an online game, but forced grouping really turns me off. I've read that LOTRO was becoming more solo friendly, and I'm curious if there are any players out there who could let me know if that is true.

Thanks in advance.

I have to step in here, and agree with you, Ozzie.

While I thoroughly enjoy the group aspect of MUMORPUGERs(Zero Punctuation reference, google - you'll love it), there are times when I just want to be left alone.

I've tested and played a lot of MUMORPUGERs, and I have to say that out of them, I believe Guild Wars and Dungeons and Dragons Online provide the best solo experience.

Can't you group with NPCs in Guild Wars?

I played DDO for a while... I didn't get too high a level... but I was a rogue and I don't think I could have soloed very much. Depends on class I would say.

Tabula Rasa does pretty well in solo form. I'm pretty much in the same boat as you Ozzie. I get 1-2 hours in the evening after the children go to bed and I could be interrupted at any time to respond in an appropiate mannter when the wife has a question or needs help.

It is a bit tought to play LOTRO up to level cap if you mostly solo... Having said that I have done just that with my hunter.

One of the keys to LOTRO and I suspect most MMORPGs is getting into an active Kinship or Guild.

Specifically for LOTRO the newest publish revamped Agmar and added some solo instances and it is more soloable that it was 6 months ago... Certainly the Epic quest line still requires a group for some of the chapters but there are alot of soloable quests as well...

Question: What server are you on? If you are on Elendilmir I would be more than happy to help you with quests...

My ingame hunter is named Letevandir.

DDO, unlike WOW, instances all quests. You can adjust the difficulty for quests that are too hard, making them soloable.

Server...I want to say it was Brandywine? Is that a server name? It's been a good half year so I honestly don't remember. I was in a good Kinship for my needs - chatty, fun, helpful, but really didn't have a lot of help with quests my level. I honestly found the server to be really empty, as I could play for an hour and maybe see 1 other person, even if I was on the roads. I think that was one other aspect that turned me away as I'm a social gamer. Just one with a buzy RL as well =)

Thanks for the replies, sad that they are leaning the way I expected (because visually, I liked LOTRO's style). On my machine currently I have WoW, EQ, CoH/CoV, and LOTRO, and none of them really are giving me a strong feeling as to which is the best for my wierd playtimes.

I am a hard core guild wars player and can say solo farmming is really easy. Graphics are great as well.
