Does Bittorrent check CRC for received files?

I received several large files from my friend via Pando (I think it is built as a Bittorrent client).

During transmission there have been several cases when Pando hanged on my friend's PC and I haven't received anything until his PC was restarted.

I am concerned this files could have become corrupted. They are not .ZIP or other archive files where I can check CRC.

Does Bittorrent calculate CRC (I would think it is stored in .Torrent file) and check it when file transmission is completed? If it is the case then everything is probably fine b/c I received all files at the end and there were no error messages of any kind.

Yes. Uses SHA-1 and checks pieces as they come-in then, when torrent completes & reassembles the files, everything is checked again. User can opt-out of the final check but it's not a good idea.

Pando employs the bittorrent protocol but I think it's substantially modified and doesn't talk to BT clients. Not sure about that though. Central servers host content as part of the distribution so it's a fundamentally different approach ... technically & socially.

If your friend & you are wanting 1-to-1 transfers use FTP. Or at least not a distributed bandwidth model. The latter is specifically for distribution from 1-to-many or many-to-many. Both inefficient & transparent. Even if the content is encrypted the connection patterns stick out like a sore thumb on the network.
