 | The son do whatever. But lets get real here people. An 83 year old man on a chain gang or doing real physical labor. Some people are just heartless. Also I do agree that this has been long over. The company is gone and everyone has been settling into there new services for a while now. For anyone who thinks i am being too soft on John Regas the "old man" imagine your grandfather or grandmother in prison when they are 83 for 15 years. Make him pay something but prison, lets get real. I truly understand what he did but at the same time for his age I am sure the Courts could come up with something else for him. -- I am the Coyote |

 | I say screw prison and just let every person who resides in the Buffalo area get 60 seconds with the scumbags. The old man would be a dead man for the turmoil that family put me through not knowing if the Sabres last game ever in Buffalo was just around the corner. |

2 edits | reply to Realtech23 While ginning up sympathy for The Rigas Family is unlikely on my part, as it would only give me a hernia from all the effort, I do get a kick out of the comments of some:
"Club Fed".
Club. Fed.
Ahh, the Pavlovian buzz words of The Squawking Heads, as they construct the piss-off of the day for their listeners. And the listeners, if they investigated the less-than-salubrious conditions in most(Admittedly not all, like Allenwood Minimum Security) Federal Lockups, would wonder when we returned to The Middle Ages, or chose Andersonville as our modern prison model.
But hey, it makes radio that people listen to, for a release from their swirling gray maelstrom of despair and gives them a focus of blame and anger for the frustrating lives they live. After all, it ain't them doing time.
Well, yet, anyway. After all, 25% of our population is or has been incarcerated. Throwing happy asses in jail is just good bidness. Ask CCA.
Still, it's hard to sympathize with The Rigas Family and those so like them and whose numbers are legion. The Criminals in Cravats, you know? |

 | reply to Steve Mehs So, you want an old man to die because of a hockey team?
How shallow are you?
This is a DEATH SENTENCE! Make no mistake about it. 83 years old, and a 15 year sentence. And there is no parole in the federal system. You must serve 85% of the time. That's 12 year, 8 months. He'll be 96 by then.
He'll die there. No question. |

Yes he should die becasue of a hockey team, and yes I am shallow. Hockey is a way of life and the blood of this area. If the Sabres would have left, the local economy would be worse then it is now. Either that dipshit and his family can suffer or the 1.3 million residents of the greater Buffalo-Niagara Frontier can suffer. Did you mourn Ken Lay's prison sentence as well?

Another poor soul who has been fooled into worshiping sports figures. Sad. I live in Philadelphia and hope all of the sports teams move out soon. My taxes would drop because I wouldn't have to pay for new stadiums, police protection for the fat slob athletes, traffic congestion, etc.
The reasons to hate the Rigas family are many, but they should have something to do with the pain and suffering he caused the Adelphia investors and the residents of Potter County, PA.
Not because of a group of overpaid pseudo athletes on skates. -- If you can read this, thank a Teacher.

 | WOW if you think that way then.. Can we have Briere and Biron back from the Flyers? We really need them back. -- I am the Coyote |
|
 | Nope. We're keeping them.
And Pif, if you think taxes would go down if they left - I highly doubt it. They should, but I don't see the city doing it. Once the money streams in, why would they turn it away? They'll just find other reasons why they need to keep it.

 | reply to major marco So, everybody who commits fraud should be sentenced to death?
So, the card game I cheated at with my little brother when I was 10 earns me a bullet in the back of the head?
Greetings, comrade. Papers, please. |

Last I checked, this isn't a card game, and the person in question is hardly anyone's "little brother". The "petty crime" screwed many out of their livelyhoods, and the man is hardly anywhere near being an ignorant child.
Please. A senior citizen *and* performing mass corporate money laundry for personal benefit? He knew damn well what kind of game he was getting into. |

No, but everyone who does a crime should pay for that crime. They should all pay the same penalty regardless of age. He's a criminal plain and simple and should be dealt with just like every other criminal.
He didn't seem to have any problem ripping off millions of people just like his son... -- I have a shaved head, a goatee, and tatoos. Don't you realize the rules don't apply to me. |

 | reply to Ianto Before you guys got Biron this time last year and then Briere at the end of the Season thanks to our Management not offering him better money first, i might add. It did look like the Flyers were done. But i will tell you the same thing I tell my stepdad and any other Flyers fan. Your welcome. (for Biron and Briere) Without Biron your team would be crushed again. without Briere you would have no assists for others to score with. -- I am the Coyote |

Selfish is another word that comes to mind, among many others that the moderators here wouldn't tolerate.
I don't care if you are 83 or 38, what this guy did screwed thousands and thousands of people out of their futures. Since he doesn't have much of a future left, I think he SHOULD spend the rest of it as uncomfortable as possible.
Call me heartless if you want, but if that were the case, then I can't figure out why my heart would ache so much for those families whose finances were destroyed by this father and son combo. |

If you can't see the difference between a card game that affects nobody and a money scam that affects thousands of honest and hard-working people and their families, you have some issues.
The guy committed a crime that warrants the amount of time he got, if not more. He's 83, but he knew exactly what he was doing. The fact that he may die in jail is something he should have thought about before taking part in the scam.
Forgive any of us who have no sympathy for such selfish people who could care so little about the people that helped them build their empire because the millions of honest dollars were not good enough for them. |
