 | Dude, build out a cable tv infracture We have a billion different telco/cellular/voip options to choose from but next to nil options for cable tv. Most people in my area have a choice between Comcast or Comcast. If they're lucky, they have Uverse as an option.
Who's with me for a cable revolution? Think about the children.

|
 | They're irrelevant because not everyone wants their entire yard space for those hideous looking saucers. Also most consumers are unwilling to forgo the expense of hardware associated with the smaller but yet still hideous looking satellite plates. |

Also, equipment (at least for me) was free, and I don't mean mail in rebate or rented equipment. Free install + free equipment on DTV, and their prices are/were lower than Comcast when I installed.
I've had very little issue with DTV, however, like all operators, their prices are slowly getting more expensive. I might try a high gain antenna to save a few $$$, but I don't think it'll do much good where I am. -- Canada = Hollywood North |

| A friend of mine had OTA TV in Woodlands. According to the guy he hired to install the antenna, he had some of the best signal strength he'd seen in SCV. He said the signal tends to be best along the 5 because of how the signal penetrates through the pass.
It worked pretty well, but ABC was marginal - it worked some days and others not. I'm guessing if you are willing to go without the "cable" networks you'd be better off going with the ~$13/month "lifeline"/broadcast cable package. The HD channels should be included.
I had that package with Comcast while on DirecTV before DirecTV got HD locals. It was dirt cheap and got me the HD channels I really wanted.

en102Canadian, eh? join:2001-01-26 Valencia, CA | Personally, I would pick that package. When I moved here in 2003, Comcast would not sell me that package. They offered: 50.40 for Analog and $60.10 for Digital Their website showed 'access basic' $13 package, and I did order it, however it was 'rejected' as not being available in my area. When I called in, they would not offer it in my area, which was primarily why I went to satellite ($45/month on plus package + $10 for 2 extra tuners) and no install fees, no frachise fees, no rental fees. It is up to $61.97 now for me with 3 sets, so it is a little pricey. -- Canada = Hollywood North |

| Someone screwed something up - it was definitely available in Valencia. I had it for a long time. It was $13 + $5 for the HD cablebox rental. Later they called and offered me a year of free HBO+showtime and they were even able to add that to my account without the "basic" cable stuff!
I think they have to offer it - IIRC it's the one package the franchise board has control over. |

en102Canadian, eh? join:2001-01-26 Valencia, CA | I know ... I couldn't get it to save my life. At the time, DirecTv looked like a decent bundle for me, and has worked well. I wanted Newsworld International (CBC Canada), and it was included on TW and DirecTv, but Comcast put it on an 'international' bundle for another $6 above the digital tier, and at the time wanted install fees + shipping fees for the equipment (delivered to the door), and didn't have their VoIP in Valencia. I figured since I already had a POTS line, I'd go DSL / DTV and save a few $$. -- Canada = Hollywood North |
