| ATI Tv Wonder DCT - Won't Record Premium HD Channels :(
So I purchased a HP Pavillion Elite m9100t with the ATI TV Wonder Digital Cable Tuner. It's Cable Card Certified pc from HP. Cable Card Certified means that it was made to work with the cable company, etc and you can record Premium HD content that comes from a cable card, with other cards you can not do this, this is the first and only one that can do it. I have everything set up properly (Including the registration with the cable card product key, full setup to check all signals and to setup media center, etc) and after the cable company came to install the cable card everything seemed to work fine for a about a week. But now, every time I am watching a channel (An HD Premium one/One that is not a basic HD one) that uses the cable card (not standard cable channels) AND HIT THE RECORD BUTTON, It tells me "NO TV SIGNAL" and goes to the blue screen info about the details. It says it can't be recorded and to Reschedule the recording after Verifying the TV signal, etc. If I switch one channel up or down, I get a picture, and then go back to the channel, I can see it again. But as soon as I hit record again - same error
So my friend told me that Premium HD channels have a code the prevents them from being recorded?!?! So what is the point of having a DVR system if you can only record the basic channels and the Premium channels are OFF LIMITS?
I called HP - Hours on tech support and nothing worked, contacted ATI - They never give you a direct answer and never get back to you. And Comcast does not know - They said they would boost the signal and that would fix that issue - WRONG! So now i just don't know what to do
Does anyone know of a way I could fix this or had the same problem? I LOVE my Vista media center and everything works fine other than this |

| Ensure that HDCP is enabled on both your video card and display device. If your display device does not have HDCP, then any "5c" flagged content will NOT be shown over DVI/HDMI. If you use component or VGA, then it "may" display on non-HDCP display devices as long as the ICT flag is set to NULL (so far, everyone is setting this to null). Vista will not allow digital video with a "5c" restriction unless it verifies that the display device is in fact a display device; this requires HDCP.
If your using an every-day monitor, you probably don't have HDCP. Hook up the monitor via VGA and see if the picture stays.
I use my HTPC on my TV, so HDCP exists. I have no problems recording or watching HBO HD. Then again, I don't have one of those things pictured there in your post, so perhaps it is having a different issue? Either way, I know Vista will not allow digital output of 5c flagged programming unless HDCP is present. It won't stop VGA, so use the blue non-square connector on your video card if your not using a TV/monitor with HDCP. |

| Well I have an LG 50 Inch Plasma and have it going HDMI out of the computer and HDMI into the TV.
I see the HD Premium channels, but as soon as i hit the record then it loses the signal So I do get the picture on the screen.
You mentioned Enableing HDCP on both the video card and display. Do you know how i might go about doing that?
You have been helpful, I didn't know much about this and your helping me alot Thanks, Mikel |

| It sounds like a setting is off. You should have a "dual tuner". Can you schedule a recording on HBO and such and then view it later? Perhaps the restriction here is watching and recording the same feed, thus it "thinks" you are violating the Copy Once protocol set by the 5c flag (your copying twice, one to the hard drive and one to the display). I have no experience with the ATI device you are using, I really can't help much further; I'm sorry.
AVSForum has an entire section dedicated to HTPC's. Since your question has nothing to do with Comcast, you may find more support there. A good read-through and search may find your exact solution, if not, try a post and see if anyone can answer. »www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/forumdis···php?f=26 At first read, it sounds like a HDCP DRM shut-off (copyright protection). |

| Well i have an internal and external one. The ATI OCUR tuner is external with the cable card inserted into it, the other is just a regular tv tuner inside the pc. I don't even think it is used. I don't even know why they put it in but that is the way it is configured on the build it site.
I'll throw this question up on the section you toldl me about.
And the HDCP DRM shut off? Any idea on how to fix that, just curious
Thanks, Mikel |

| To fix something, it has to be broken; HDCP is a feature It may not be wanted, but it is a feature.
Reading up on "The Official Vista Cable Card Thread"; it looks like the ATI DCT is very buggy. It also looks like it will not support recording two shows at the same time nor watching a show your recording...
It's 2008 and we still can't watch live TV on a PC without headaches... ugh! |

| reply to dillinjabrea Hi I just bought a new HP m9200t and had to remove the NV software to get my ATI DCT to work. Everything seemed fine, recorded Hbo HD fine, then Bam!! I have the same issue you described. I cant even tune the cablecard with live tv, I have to go to the guide then tune. This means everytime I come back I have to change the channel to watch with cablecard. Things I have tried: 1. Isolate ATI DCT- Disable all other tuners. 2. Remove cablecard test ATI DCT recording live tv function with basic cable. -Works Restart DCT and PC-setup cablecard in Media center- issue not resolved. Have you found a solution yet? |

| reply to dillinjabrea I did SP1 for Vista Home Premium and it fixed a lot of the other issues I was having but this one is the last one. If i didn't mention before I can Schedule shows and they will record. But if im watching a Premium HD channel and go to record it...blam..same problem. Now fyi. If i STOP the channel...wait a while...then go to the guide and hit record. It will usually record the show..then just go into recorded movies and start watching it. |

| Hi,
What happens if you hit live tv from the main menu, will it tune in or do you have to go to the guide like me? Do you have Norton running with all current updates?
FYI- ATI DCT works with S-cards and my cable company gave me a m-card. What do you have? I think our problem may be with the cablecard itself because it does tune-in and works-just not all the time. I am going to get to the bottom of this- I've built many MCE pc's that have worked flawlessly and purchased this only b/C of the cablelabs certification requirement for cablecard.I will let you know of my progress. |
