I am a lucky Verizon FIOS customer... let met just list some of the fees still charged to POTS over Fiber:
Fcc Line Charge $6.40 Federal USF $ .65 Surchages $ .19 911 Surcharge $ .35 Federal Tax $ .19 State/Local *in this case NY$ .96
In additon:
Usf- Long Distance $1.23 Surcharges (more) $1.46 Federal tax (more) $ .18 State/Local (more) $4.16 ------------------------- grand total: $15.77 (based on an unlimited calling plan with one additional option over basic: 3 way calling).
Charge for VOIP: $29.95-$40 without nickels and dimes all over the place. Then again.. it's not a GUARANTEED QOS, it's VOIP we're comparing it to... Bundled with internet under a 1 year contract it goes down to about $42 each. Still more on the bottom line than the cable competitor.. but it's two different products... FIOS Internet/(POTS)Phone vs Cablemodem & Cable VOIP.
